{"id":92292,"date":"2024-11-29T12:50:44","date_gmt":"2024-11-29T12:50:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=92292"},"modified":"2024-11-29T12:50:44","modified_gmt":"2024-11-29T12:50:44","slug":"court-frees-50-persons-alleged-to-be-ipob-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=92292","title":{"rendered":"Court frees 50 persons alleged to be IPOB members"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday, discharged and acquitted no fewer than 50 persons alleged to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, of allegations bordering on terrorism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Justice James Omotosho, in a judgment, held that the Nigerian Police Force failed, in its entirety, to established a prima facie case against the 50 defendants, including four women.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Justice Omotosho, who upheld the no-case submission of the defendants, said that the prosecution failed to adduce any credible evidence, linking the defendants with the allegations they were charged for.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The judge consequently struck out the three-count charge preferred against the defendants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The Inspector-General of Police had, in the charge marked: FHC\/ABJ\/CR\/8\/2024, sued the 50 defendants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">They were alleged to have assembled themselves inside 911 truck with Reg No. XA-139 BDN, and engaging themselves in a meeting all about, and in connection with an act of terrorism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">They were alleged to have in their custody 48 Black Caps, 25 Red Caps, 6 Orange Colour Caps, and all were designed in IPOB emblem with various charms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The police further alleged that their \u201cgathering was for the purpose of promoting illegality in other to terrorise the people of Anambra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The police said the offence is contrary and punishable under Section 12 of Terrorism g, (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u25cf By <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>NAN<\/b><\/span><!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_241129_134631_222.sdocx--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday, discharged and acquitted no fewer than 50 persons alleged to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, of allegations bordering on terrorism.
