{"id":92103,"date":"2024-11-04T22:32:59","date_gmt":"2024-11-04T22:32:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=92103"},"modified":"2024-11-04T22:32:59","modified_gmt":"2024-11-04T22:32:59","slug":"tinubu-directs-immediate-release-of-minors-facing-prosecution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=92103","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu directs immediate release of minors facing prosecution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">President Bola Tinubu has directed that all the minors arrested and facing prosecution in court over their alleged involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protest should be released with immediate effect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents in Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">According to him, the President also directed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to see the welfare of the minors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The minister said that the President said that all the law enforcement agents involved in the arrest, detention and prosecution of the minors be investigated and anyone found culpable, would face appropriate disciplinary action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Mr Idris said that Lateef Fagbemi, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, was asked to drop all charges against the minors immediately and ensure their release.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u201cThere have been enquiries and commentaries about the fate of the minors arrested by the Nigerian Police that were undergoing some legal processes. You also saw what happened in the courtroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u201cAnd as a result of that, Mr President, because of his very deep commitment to democracy and the rule of law, and without prejudice to the legal processes, has directed the immediate release of all the minors,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">He added that the President also directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to ensure the welfare of the minors and reunion with their parents or guardians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Mr Idris said the President also directed that an administrative committee be set up immediately to be headed by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs to look at all issues surrounding the arrest, detention, treatment, and release of the minors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">According to the minister, Tinubu directed that all law enforcement agents involved in the arrest and legal processes should be investigated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">He added that anyone found to have committed any infractions, appropriate disciplinary action would be taken against them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u25cf By <strong>NAN<\/strong><\/span><!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_241104_231328_091.sdocx--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Bola Tinubu has directed that all the minors arrested and facing prosecution in court over their alleged involvement in the #EndBadGovernance protest should be released with immediate effect.
