A spark led to an explosion as the rural dwellers scooped petrol from an overturned tanker.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Sadly, more than 50 individuals writhe in pain in hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawal Shiisu Adams, confirmed the accident, stating that the driver lost control at approximately 12:30 AM. As the villagers began to collect the spilled fuel, the situation escalated into a catastrophic fire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">According to DSP Shiisu, \u201c95 people have been confirmed dead, and over 50 are currently receiving treatment for injuries.\u201d He urged the community to avoid dangerous situations involving fuel spills in the future.<\/span><!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_241016_185047_996.sdocx--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">In a statement, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri,\u00a0 expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this devastating incident.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with the injured, and we wish them a swift and full recovery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u201cThe Minister has instructed the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority to promptly commence a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The Minister also urged Nigerians to avoid approaching vehicles transporting petroleum products that have been involved in accidents or mechanical failures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">He called on petroleum transporters to ensure that only certified drivers who comply with safety standards, as stipulated by the Federal Road Safety Corps, are employed to transport petroleum products.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u201cWhile we understand the temptation to scavenge, the dangers of attempting to collect spilt fuel cannot be overstated. The tragic loss of lives in this incident serves as a stark reminder of the severe risks involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u201cThe Ministry remains committed to ensuring the safety of Nigerians in all aspects of petroleum product distribution and transport.
