The Chairman of its Caretaker Committee, Mrs. Nenadi Usman, is heading for the courts to appeal a Federal High Court judgment on Tuesday re-instating Mr. Julius Abure as national chairman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Her words in a statement: &#8220;This evening, I met with His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, His Excellency Governor Alex Otti, and Senator Darlington Nwokocha (Secretary, LP Caretaker Committee). We deliberated on the judgment passed today. The case actually preceded the formation of the Caretaker Committee. However, after being briefed, the Caretaker Committee decided to join the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;Consequently, we have resolved to appeal the judgment accordingly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">&#8220;I, therefore, call on all party members to remain calm and maintain peace as we continue our reconciliation efforts.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">This Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Abuja declared Julius Abure as the substantive National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Justice Emeka Nwite, in a judgment, affirmed the Abure-led leadership and the March 2024 Nnewi Convention that produced the national leadership of the LP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Justice Nwite ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognise Abure as the legitimate chairman, overriding INEC\u2019s earlier stance that Abure\u2019s leadership was invalid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Recall that INEC had argued that the LP\u2019s national convention, which was conducted, violated the Constitution and Electoral Act, and that the party failed to meet legal requirements for holding the convention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The electoral umpire had said that Abure was no longer the national chairman of the party, stating that Abure\u2019s tenure expired in June 2024.<\/span><!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_241008_222653_331.sdocx--><\/p>\n<p>\u25cf Additional report by <strong>NAN<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is no sign of relief to the pains that the Labour Party (LP) is going through as its court dramas seem to be on the upswing.
