{"id":91711,"date":"2024-09-27T08:58:23","date_gmt":"2024-09-27T08:58:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=91711"},"modified":"2024-09-27T08:58:23","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T08:58:23","slug":"five-men-sentenced-to-death-for-offa-bank-robbery-appeal-as-6-year-old-video-of-confession-re-emerges-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=91711","title":{"rendered":"Five men sentenced to death for Offa Bank robbery appeal as 6-year old video of confession re-emerges (+Video)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Five men who stood trial in the Offa bank robbery in 2018 in which 30 persons were gunned down have indicated interest to appeal the death sentence handed down by <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Justice Haleemah Salman of the Kwara State High Court.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">They were found guilty <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">of unlawful possession of firearms, armed robbery, and culpable homicide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">In a verdict delivered on Thursday September 26, the judge while presiding over the case, held that the offenses were punishable by death.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The Offa bank robbery happened on April 5, 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>Below is the 6 years old viral video of their confession:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 384px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-91711-1\" width=\"384\" height=\"216\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VID-20240926-WA0023.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VID-20240926-WA0023.mp4\">https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/VID-20240926-WA0023.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Six suspects, including a police officer, Michael Adikwu (now deceased), Ayoade Akinnibosun, Azeez Salahudeen, Niyi Ogundiran, Ibikunle Ogunleye, and Adeola Abraham, were arrested and convicted in connection with the bloody bank robbery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">However, the lead defence counsel, Nathaniel Emeribe, has said the death sentence slammed on five men involved in the Offa bank robbery of 2018 would be appealed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">He disclosed this shortly after judgment was delivered on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The court convicted Ayoade Akinnibosun, Azeez Salahudeen, Niyi Ogundiran, Ibikunle Ogunleye and Adeola Abraham.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Speaking after the verdict, the lead prosecuting counsel,\u00a0 Rotimi Jacob, SAN, said that the prosecution was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. Jacob said that the six years spent on the case was worth it, as evidence clearly showed that the convicts were involved in the robbery and killings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Also speaking, the lead defence counsel, Nathaniel Emeribe, represented by Abdullahi Jimba said that the judgment was not surprising, considering the evidence presented in court.
