At 72, popular Crooner, Onyeka Onwenu, performed her hit sound track, One Lover, at the 80th birthday anniversary party of Lagos-based businesswoman, Dr. Stella Okoli. Shortly after, she slumped and was confirmed dead at the Reddington Hospital in Lagos.<\/p>\n
Abraham and Tijani, her two children, in a statement spoke on the circumstances of her passing.<\/span><\/p>\n The statement, <\/span>titled, \u201cOur Mother has passed on – Onyeka Onwenu\u2019s Children\u201d, reads in full:<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt is with heavy hearts that I and my brother wish to announce the passing of our mother, the much loved Onyeka Onwenu. She made the passed away last night, Tuesday July 30 2024, in Lagos Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cShe was rushed to the hospital after an amazing last performance, where doctors made every effort to save her life\u2026 sadly she passed.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n \u201cOnyeka Onwenu was a national treasure! An icon and legend, who inspired multiple generations of Nigerians and people around the world with her music, acting, philanthropy and hunanitarian efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cShe is greatly loved and missed!<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe would like to extend our thanks to those who were with her in her final moments. And to the general public for their concern and support.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSpecifically, we are deeply grateful to Mr. Peter Obi, Mr. and Mrs. John Momoh and Mr. and Mrs. Okonkwo as well as Messrs Ajayi and Mr. Okpara all of whom were with her during her last moments.
