{"id":90403,"date":"2024-07-01T19:52:01","date_gmt":"2024-07-01T19:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=90403"},"modified":"2024-07-01T19:52:01","modified_gmt":"2024-07-01T19:52:01","slug":"alleged-6bn-fraud-efcc-opposes-agunloyes-application-for-overseas-medical-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=90403","title":{"rendered":"Alleged $6bn Fraud:\u00a0EFCC opposes\u00a0Agunloye`s\u00a0application\u00a0for overseas medical trip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Monday, July 1, 2024 opposed the application of the former Minister of Power and Steel, Olu Agunloye to travel abroad for medical check-up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Agunloye\u00a0is\u00a0facing\u00a0prosecution by the EFCC\u00a0before\u00a0Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal\u00a0Capital\u00a0Territory\u00a0High Court, Apo, Abuja on seven-count charges,\u00a0bordering on\u00a0fraudulent Mambilla\u00a0Power Project\u00a0contract award\u00a0to the tune of $6billion (Six Billion US Dollars).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">At Monday\u2019s proceedings ,\u00a0Agunloye, through his counsel, Adeola Adedikpe, SAN, drew the attention of the court to his application\u00a0for leave to travel\u00a0overseas\u00a0for medical\u00a0examination.\u00a0Attached to his\u00a0application\u00a0were\u00a0documents marked\u00a0Exhibit A to E, which included a report from University College Hospital, NISA Premier Hospital, a letter of review of medical report from the Federal Road Safety Commission\u00a0(FRSC)\u00a0and an invitation from a foreign medical analyst,\u00a0requesting\u00a0him\u00a0to quickly travel abroad for medical evaluation and attention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">In response, prosecution counsel,\u00a0Abba Mohammed presented a counter-affidavit written and filed by\u00a0Hussain Babangida, a prosecution witness and an investigator with the EFCC,\u00a0in which\u00a0the court\u00a0was\u00a0urged to\u00a0refuse\u00a0the application\u00a0on the ground that\u00a0Agunloye could be a flight risk, having amply demonstrated unwillingness to present himself for trial until he was declared wanted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u201cThis is our written address and we rely on all the resolutions in the counter-affidavit and we adopt the same with the exhibit attached.
