{"id":90328,"date":"2024-06-24T22:06:36","date_gmt":"2024-06-24T22:06:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=90328"},"modified":"2024-06-26T13:01:29","modified_gmt":"2024-06-26T13:01:29","slug":"video-again-it-happens-trademore-estate-abuja-flooded-but-govt-denies-report-of-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=90328","title":{"rendered":"(Video) Again, it happens: TradeMore Estate Abuja flooded but govt denies report of death"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">A viral video on social media has shown the flooding of the Trademore Estate in Abuja, with reports of two lives lost.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">But the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has dismissed as untrue, the reports of deaths on Monday. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Every year in the last four years or more the Estate has been in the news, more for flooding, submersion of homes, deaths, and a bitter battle in court between government and estate dwellers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">A video trending on social media Monday, alleged that two persons were swept away by the floods at the Estate in Lugbe, a suburb of Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 368px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-90328-1\" width=\"368\" height=\"640\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/VID-20240624-WA0022.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/VID-20240624-WA0022.mp4\">https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/VID-20240624-WA0022.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The Acting Director-General of FEMD, Mrs. Florence Wenegieme after an assessment of affected areas discovered that no life was lost.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">She said, \u201cWe did not receive any distress call from TradeMore. We saw the viral video and we went there to carryout an on-the-spot assessment. We interviewed some residents and they confirmed that no life was lost to the floods.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u201cWe activated all emergency stakeholders including NEMA, FCT Fire Service, Department of Development Control and Department of Engineering Services,\u201d the DG added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">According to her, the houses submerged by the floods Monday, were part of the 116 structures earlier marked for demolition in 2023, when the Estate was declared a disaster zone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">She recalled that FCTA was prevented from removing the structures by a court injunction as instituted by the Association of residents. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The DG lamented that a primary school with about 500 pupils, management and staff, is also sitting on the water channel; describing it as a disaster waiting to happen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Wenegieme lamented that structures earlier demolished by the Department of Development Control were being rebuilt or renovated by the owners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">She, however, appealed to residents in houses marked for demolition at the estate to relocate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Wenegieme advised the estate developer to provide all the needed infrastructure to avert a re-occurrence of flash floods that may lead to any loss of live(s).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u25cf Additional report by <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><b>Abuja Digest<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_240624_230048_914.sdocx--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A viral video on social media has shown the flooding of the Trademore Estate in Abuja, with reports of two lives lost.
