{"id":90165,"date":"2024-06-04T10:16:33","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T10:16:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=90165"},"modified":"2024-06-04T10:18:07","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T10:18:07","slug":"90165","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=90165","title":{"rendered":"Strike continues, but may end by close of Tuesday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Details are yet unclear, but indications are that organised labour may suspend its indefinite strike by close of work on Tuesday after a meeting of its ratifying organs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\"><strong>Everyday.ng<\/strong> reports that after an agreement on Monday night, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) said the strike continues Tuesday until their organs met.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">A statement by both parties states: \u201cThe President of Nigeria, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, is committed to establishing a National Minimum Wage higher than N60,000; and the Tripartite Committee will convene daily for the next week to finalise an agreeable National Minimum Wage.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The organised labour agreed to \u201cimmediately hold meetings of its organs to consider this new offer, and no worker would face victimisation as a consequence of participating in the industrial action.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The NLC, in a post on X, on Tuesday said the industrial action remained on until Tuesday\u2019s meeting of organs of the union where all resolutions of Monday\u2019s meeting were expected to be reviewed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\u201cUntil we hear from our organs at our meeting scheduled for today, June 4, we are still on strike,\u201d the post read.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Both government and Labour have been at daggers-drawn over an appropriate monthly minimum wage. Government offered N60,000, and Labour has continued to angle for N494,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">Meantime, the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, NSIWC, has summoned a meeting of the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage for Tuesday, June 4.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 17px;\">The last meeting of the committee came to an abrupt end last week after Labour disagreed with the offer of a minimum wage of N60,000.
