A Nigerian para powerlifter in the lightweight category Esther Oyema, has done the country proud at the on-going Commonwealth Games winning a gold medal and making a mess of the world record.
\nTwo other Para weightlifters Nigerians also won gold medals
\nRoland Ezuruike won gold in the Men\u2019s Lightweight with 224.3 points while in the Women\u2019s Heavyweight final, Ndidi Nwosu polled 110.4 points for Nigeria\u2019s third gold medal.
\nOyema set a new world record with a 141.6kg lift in the women\u2019s under 50kg class .
\nA silver medal went to another Nigerian,
\nLucy Ejike, with a lift of 131.4kg. Another Nigerian,\u00a0Paul Kehinde, got a silver medal.
\nAccording to Wikipedia, 36 years old Oyema competed in the\u00a0women’s 61 kg\u00a0event at the\u00a02014 Commonwealth Games\u00a0where she won a gold medal and set a new world recorld by lifting 122.4\u00a0kg in the heavyweight category. In 2015 she won a gold medal at the\u00a0All-Africa Games\u00a0by lifting 133\u00a0kg and beating her previous record 126\u00a0kg.
\nIn the same year she traveled all the way to\u00a0Almaty,\u00a0Kazakhstan\u00a0where she won another gold medal at the IPC Powerlifting Asian Open Championships by lifting 79\u00a0kg.\u00a0During the\u00a02016 Summer Paralympics\u00a0she won a silver medal by beating her Mexican counterpart\u00a0Amalia Perez\u00a0in the\u00a0women’s 55 kg\u00a0lifting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
