{"id":8133,"date":"2018-03-14T08:14:11","date_gmt":"2018-03-14T08:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=8133"},"modified":"2018-03-14T08:14:11","modified_gmt":"2018-03-14T08:14:11","slug":"how-senators-not-monkeys-ate-our-n70m-by-senator-adamu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=8133","title":{"rendered":"How Senators, not monkeys, &#8220;ate&#8221; our &#8220;N70m&#8221;, by Senator Adamu"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"herald-mobile-nav herald-slide hidden-lg hidden-md\">\nIt is not monkeys that ate N70 million belonging to northern Senators, but the members who got N400,000 each to attend a meeting in Katsina State.<br \/>\nFormer Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Abdulahi Adamu, told Daily Trust in an interview \u00a0the mystery surrounding the Northern Senators Forum (NSF) money allegedly eaten up by monkeys on his farm: \u201cIn order to give a dog a bad name, they now went to say that they had N70m that I mismanaged or whatever. The NSF, to the best of my knowledge, has never had N70m, at least not during my tenure that they purported it was mismanaged.\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"content\" class=\"herald-site-content herald-slide\">\n<div class=\"herald-section container herald-sticky-single-visible\">\n<article id=\"post-117686\" class=\"herald-single post-117686 post type-post status-publish format-standard has-post-thumbnail hentry category-nigeria tag-monkey\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-lg-9 col-md-9 col-mod-single col-mod-main\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-lg-10 col-md-10 col-sm-10\">\n<div class=\"entry-content herald-entry-content\">\n\u201cWe inherited something in the region of N62m\/N63m that was declared by the outgone secretary of the forum who happens to be the present Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan.<br \/>\n\u201cI didn\u2019t touch one kobo until when we were going to Katsina for the NSF retreat. When we were going, we got the same guys to sign for the transport fares.<br \/>\n\u201cEvery senator that attended was paid N250, 000 as allowance for his two days and everyone also got N150, 000 for return ticket. They got these and they signed. The remaining money was returned to Abuja and was paid back into the account.<br \/>\n\u201cYou know, when you talk of money, everybody\u2019s attention will be attracted. They did this to get attention, but this is just garbage, and for the allegation, it is up to them to prove&#8230;.\u201d<br \/>\nAdamu is billed to face a Senate Committee over allegations of meeting with others to destabilise the Senate leadership.<br \/>\nHe maintains that his predicament began after he opposed a bill to alter the sequence of elections, a move believed to be targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari.<br \/>\n\u201cI believe as a senator, it is not over because they will transmit it to the president for assent, he can sign it and he may decide not to assent to it.<br \/>\n\u201cRemember, on the floor of the senate, they are saying they will override him (the president) as if they are in a motor park. They said so freely as if they had a grudge against the president.<br \/>\n\u201cAs a senator, I started talking to people who shared opinion with me on the passage of the bill.
