{"id":7921,"date":"2018-03-03T09:25:04","date_gmt":"2018-03-03T09:25:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=7921"},"modified":"2018-03-03T09:25:04","modified_gmt":"2018-03-03T09:25:04","slug":"volunteer-doctors-quit-rann-in-borno","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=7921","title":{"rendered":"Volunteer doctors quit Rann in Borno"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-body  xt-post-content\">\n<strong>Source: nan.ng<\/strong><br \/>\nThe medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres(MSF) said on Friday it had suspended its work in the Nigerian town of Rann and evacuated national and international staff after a deadly raid by Boko Haram guerrillas.<br \/>\nSuspected Boko Haram gunmen killed four Nigerian aid workers in an attack on a military barracks in the town in Borno state late on Thursday.<br \/>\n\u201cFollowing a violent attack in Rann, Borno state, on Thursday 1 March, M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res (MSF) suspended its medical activities in the town and evacuated 22 national and international staff,\u201d MSF said in a statement.<br \/>\n\u201cIt is still unclear how many people were killed and injured but before leaving, MSF medical staff treated 9 wounded patients.<br \/>\n\u201d \u201cThis attack is a stark reminder that it is the people in Borno who are paying the price of this ruthless conflict\u201d\u201d, MSF said.<br \/>\n\u201cLeaving our patients without medical assistance is an extremely painful decision\u201d, it added.<br \/>\nPresident Muhammadu Buhari and Senate President Bukola Saraki have condemned the attack on the town.<br \/>\nPresident Buhari said the attack on humanitarian workers in Rann more than ever showed Boko Haram insurgents as godless, brutish, and utterly to be despised.<br \/>\n\u201cAs I have always maintained, no true religion advocates hurting the innocent. To now further attack and kill those offering humanitarian aid is the height of bestiality. It is odious before both God and man,\u201d the President said.<br \/>\nThe Nigerian leader sympathised with the United Nations and other humanitarian agencies working at Rann, and in the country generally.<br \/>\nPresident Buhari affirmed that such cowardly attacks can only bolster the determination of government to bring the Boko Haram insurgency to a decisive end, in the shortest possible time.<br \/>\nPresident of the Senate, in a tweet on his personal handle \u2018@BukolaSaraki\u2019, described the attack as cowardly \u2014 while also calling for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.<br \/>\nHe said:\u201cMy prayers are with the people of Rann, Borno State at this time.<br \/>\n\u201cLast night\u2019s despicable attack that led to the deaths of several aid workers is a callous and cowardly act.
