\n\u201cIn and outside office, you have continued to inspire generations of\u00a0Nigerians through your patriotism, selflessness, simplicity and\u00a0unwavering commitment to the peace and unity of our dear country.
\nJonathan said further in a statement issued by his media adviser,\u00a0Ikechukwu Eze: \u201cYou diligently served your nation as a teacher,\u00a0parliamentarian and President and have continued to serve her, even in\u00a0your old age, as an elder statesman and sage who calmly offers his\u00a0wise counsel on national issues.
\n\u201cYour Excellency, in your wisdom your envisioned a great nation and I\u00a0pray to God to grant you more fruitful years to see Nigeria attain that enviable height we all desire.\u201d

\nIn the same vein, Speaker of the House of Representatives, \u00a0Rt. Hon Yakubu Dogara, has congratulated the former president and elder statesman.
\nIn a congratulatory message, Dogara noted that former President Shagari has \u00a0served Nigeria selflessly and always put the country first.
\n“Former president Shagari is an embodiment of humility and selfless service, a father all and pillar of support.”
\n“We celebrate him today as he mark his 92nd birthday.”
\n“He has been a source of wisdom to all who go to him for counsel and remains a shining example of how leaders should be.”
