{"id":7214,"date":"2018-01-15T21:45:53","date_gmt":"2018-01-15T21:45:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=7214"},"modified":"2018-01-15T21:45:53","modified_gmt":"2018-01-15T21:45:53","slug":"multi-billion-naira-fraud-ekiti-bars-fayemi-other-from-holding-public-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=7214","title":{"rendered":"Multi-Billion Naira Fraud: Ekiti bars Fayemi, other from holding public office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Jimoh Joseph, Ado-Ekiti<br \/>\nA White Paper released by Ekiti State Government has barred a former\u00a0governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, from holding a public office in the state\u00a0for 10 years.<br \/>\nThe state also barred his former Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Dapo\u00a0Kolawole, for the same number of years.<br \/>\nThe duo were barred based on the report of the Ekiti Judicial Commission of Inquiry, which indicted them over alleged mismanagement\u00a0of the state\u2019s finances between October 2010 and 2014.<br \/>\nFayemi, now a Minister of Mines and Steel Development, was the\u00a0governor during the stated period.\u00a0The report declared them \u201cas unfit to hold any public office in the state.\u200e\u201d<br \/>\nThe Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by Ekiti State Government to\u00a0look into the financial transactions of the state under the administration of Dr. Fayemi had said that the former governor must\u00a0refund a sum of N2.75 billion allocated from the N25 billion bond obtained by the government for the execution of contract for the\u00a0construction of Ultra-Modern market in Ado Ekiti, which was never\u00a0executed.<br \/>\nThe commission of inquiry also said that the contractor in respect of\u00a0the furnishing of the government house built by the Fayemi\u2019s\u00a0administration should be made to refund a sum of N324.8 million,\u00a0noting that the contract should not have been more than N280 million.<br \/>\nThe panel said it found out that KITWOOD Nigeria Limited to which the\u00a0furnishing contract of over N600 million was awarded had no traceable\u00a0address and that \u201cthe address on the Letter of Award is a virgin land\u00a0at opposite the new Central Bank along new Iyin Road, Ado Ekiti.<br \/>\nThese and several other revelations were made known today, when the\u00a0commission of inquiry submitted its report to the State Governor, Mr\u00a0Ayodele Fayose. The panel was headed by Justice Silas Oyewole (rtd).<br \/>\nOn the purchase of vehicles, the panel said \u201cclaim by Coscharis Motors\u00a0that it supplied 235 and\/or 250 vehicles was fraudulent and that\u00a0fraught with so many contradictions.<br \/>\n\u201cThat Coscharis Motors supplied some vehicles outside Ekiti State\u00a0especially, at Ibadan Liaison office when Ekiti State Government does\u00a0not have a Liaison office in Ibadan. In respect of this, seven\u00a0vehicles were supplied outside the State and signed for by unknown\u00a0persons.<br \/>\nThat Coscharis Motors only supplied 219 vehicles to the Ekiti State\u00a0government and that 17 Joylong Buses were supplied to the Ekiti State\u00a0Government as gift but later carted away.\u201d<br \/>\nOn the controversial N852.9 State Universal Education Board (SUBEB)\u00a0fund, the commission said it was clear that the Government of Dr\u00a0Fayemi hoodwinked the federal government into paying its own matching\u00a0grant by obtaining N852, 936,783.12 loan from Access Bank on November<br \/>\n25, 2013 without perfecting documentation in respect of the loan,\u00a0thereby flouting the provisions of Section 11(2) of the UBEC Act,\u00a02004.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From Jimoh Joseph, Ado-Ekiti A White Paper released by Ekiti State Government has barred a former\u00a0governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, from holding a public office in the state\u00a0for 10 years.
