As the anger over electricity tariff continues to escalate across the country, it is not out of love for high-end electricity consumers that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Monday reviewed electricity tariff for Band A consumers from N225 to 206.8\/ kWh.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is simply because there has been some measure of improvement in the value of the Naira, going by explanations by the commission.<\/span><\/p>\n

It did not, however, say what it will do if the nation’s currency plummets.<\/span><\/p>\n

NERC has subsequently directed the electricity distribution companies (DisCos) to review downward the tariff paid by the consumers.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEffective from May 6, 2024, Band A end-user tariffs have been reviewed to NGN206.8\/ kWh under MYTO 2024. This is largely driven by the relative appreciation of the Naira in the official foreign exchange window,\u201d the Commission stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

Band A electricity consumers, according to NERC and Discos, are those who enjoy a daily supply of a minimum of 20 hours; but there have been loud protests that in many cases this supply level is not achieved.<\/span><\/p>\n

There have been complaints by those on other bands that they appear to be suffering reduced supply to meet up the demand of those on Band A, but there is no concrete evidence of this trend.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the directive by NERC, DisCos have begun to comply.<\/span><\/p>\n

Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in a notice on Monday said, “We are pleased to share with you the revised tariff for our Band \u2018A\u2019 feeders, \u00a0which will decrease from N225\/kwh\u00a0 to N206.80 effective May 6.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe assure customers on our Band \u2018A\u2019 feeders of continued availability of electricity supply for 20-24 hours daily. Please note that the tariffs for Band B, C D and E remain unaffected\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) spokesperson, Mrs Busolami Tunwase, said that the new tariff was with effect from\u00a0 May 4.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCustomers using prepaid meters will be the first to experience the revised tariff \u2013 N206.80\/Kwh whenever they vend this month of May.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile for Post-paid customers, the revised tariff will reflect in the electricity bills to be receive at the end of May 2024,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
