All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Dr. Cairo Ojuogboh\u00a0 allegedly slumped and later died after South Africa’s equaliser against Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final match on Wednesday night. That match has allegedly claimed more lives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier reports listed a youth Corps member serving in Adamawa State, simply identified as Samuel, and Dr. Ojuogboh\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A media report said that the Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University Malete, Alhaji Ayuba Abdullahi, died after watching the same match.<\/span><\/p>\n

A source said, \u201cThe Deputy Bursar watched the Nigeria\/South Africa match from the beginning till the end of the extra time, till it was time for a penalty kick.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe complained that he was feeling dizzy, so he said he needed to go back home and rest not knowing that his BP had gone up.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOn getting home, he collapsed and was rushed to a private hospital in Sango and he was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital and before he could be attended to, he died.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe was buried on Thursday morning according to Islamic rites.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The school authority confirmed his death, but was silent on the cause.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another social media post making the rounds talked about a Nigerian\u00a0 businessman based in Cote d\u2019Ivoire who died.<\/span><\/p>\n

The post reads: <\/span>High Chief Osondu Nwoye\u00a0 was the richest Igbo businessman based in Ivory Coast before yesterday, but what the late Anambra-born billionaire did not see coming Is watching his darling Super Eagles play yesterday in Ivory Coast, where he lives and runs his flourishing business, going to ultimately cost him his life?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Late Osondu Nwoye<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

By this time yesterday, High Chief Osondu was still alive, hale, and hearty.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

He travelled to Bourke, the city that hosted the Super Eagles match yesterday, to watch his darling Super Eagles play.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

He loves football and is patriotic for his home country.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

According to eyewitnesses, the High Chief was on top of the moon, shouting on top of\u00a0 voice, when Victor Osimen scored that second goal, which was later cancelled by VAR.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

May be the shock of seeing the goal cancelled and penalty awarded to South Africa was too much to bear for his fragile heart, which failed immediately, which resulted in the High Chief collapsing inside the stadium.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

All the frenetic efforts to revive him failed, as he was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

While the whole country was rejoicing yesterday, the people of the Amanuike community in Anambra State, where he came from, were mourning.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

They just lost an illustrious person, the richest man in the community, who was an iroko who provided shelter, shade, and succour to many in that community.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

His immediate family is in mourning too.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

They just lost a friend, a father, and a benefactor.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

A reminder to the rest of us suffering from underlying illnesses like high blood pressure. to stay away from watching tension-soaked Super Eagles matches….<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

The other side of watching football, which we wouldn’t discuss well enough,<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

May their souls rest in peace.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Ojuogboh, slumped and died in his Abuja residence.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Super Eagles of Nigeria eventually won the match against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa after a penalty shoot-out, but Ojuogboh was not around again to witness it.<\/span><\/p>\n

In another development, a social media post announced the demise of another Nigerian,\u00a0 simply identified as Samuel, \u201cWe lost one Nigerian during our victory celebration over South Africa today at our sports viewing center here in Numan.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe corps member who is serving in Numan from Kaduna fainted before the kick of the winning goal. He died before they could reach the hospital. May his soul rest in peace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The NYSC Coordinator in Adamawa State, Mr. Jingi Dennis, confirmed the matter in a telephone conversation Thursday morning with an online newspaper, Daily Post.<\/span><\/p>\n

The coordinator said, \u201dI received the news of his death last night. I hope to have more details today.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to his colleagues who went with him to watch the match, the late corps member told them that he didn\u2019t like watching penalty shootout. He then bowed his head and all of a sudden, he collapsed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201dHe was confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Numan by the doctor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ojuogboh, former Executive Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) slumped immediately after Mokoena scored the penalty kick against Nigeria. Attempts to revive him failed.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe died yesterday after South Africa was awarded a penalty. As soon as they scored, he screamed and collapsed. That was the end of him,” a family source said.<\/span><\/p>\n

No comments were made regarding an underlying ailment or disease.<\/span><\/p>\n

His remains have been deposited at the Garki Hospital mortuary in Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ojuogboh represented Ika Federal Constituency in House of Representatives, between 2003 \u2013 2007.<\/span><\/p>\n

He was the Director, Projects, on the Interim Management Committee, IMC, of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).<\/span><\/p>\n

Born on September 8, 1959 in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, Ojougbo was a Medical Doctor, Chairman and Founder of Ojougboh Foundation,<\/span><\/p>\n
