{"id":68362,"date":"2024-01-19T12:37:02","date_gmt":"2024-01-19T12:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=68362"},"modified":"2024-01-19T12:37:02","modified_gmt":"2024-01-19T12:37:02","slug":"tension-over-for-5-governors-as-they-retain-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=68362","title":{"rendered":"Tension over for 5 Governors as they retain seats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Governors Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, Abdulahi Sule of Nasarawa, Ogun&#8217;s Dapo Abiodun, Kaduna&#8217;s Uba Sani, and Nasir Idris of Kebbi State have cause to smile as t<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">he Supreme Court ruled they\u00a0 were validly-elected in the March 18, 2024 governorship election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">It was also a measure of relief for the Court of Appeal, which did not have its integrity questioned as was done in Plateau, Zamfara last week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, who read the lead judgement, held that the verdict of the court of appeal, which affirmed Sule\u2019s election, was \u201ccomprehensive and well considered\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Consequently, all five-member panel of the apex court dismissed the appeals filed by David Ombugadu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last elections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">In March 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Sule as winner of the election with 347,209 votes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Ombugadu polled 283,016 votes behind Sule.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">However, the PDP candidate had expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the governorship election, citing alleged irregularities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">In October 2023, the election petition tribunal in Lafia nullified Sule\u2019s victory and declared Ombugadu as winner of the poll.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Consequently, Sule and the APC sought to overturn the verdict of the tribunal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">In November 2023, the court of appeal faulted the verdict of the tribunal and affirmed Sule\u2019s election as governor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">The court also dismissed the appeal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Gombe State Jibrin Barde challenging the election of Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">In a judgment by a panel of justices, the apex court held that the appeal lacked merit and was unnecessary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">For Kaduna, the apex court<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\"> affirmed the election of Gov.
