{"id":68291,"date":"2024-01-16T13:39:30","date_gmt":"2024-01-16T13:39:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=68291"},"modified":"2024-01-16T13:39:30","modified_gmt":"2024-01-16T13:39:30","slug":"video-massacre-of-50000-nigerians-features-in-no-jews-no-news-comments-of-israeli-envoy-at-un-meeting-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=68291","title":{"rendered":"(Video) Massacre of 50,000 Nigerians features in \u2018No Jews, no news\u2019 comments of Israeli envoy at UN meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">By <strong>Mike Wagenheim<\/strong> (www.jns.org)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">The United Nations Security Council spent (last) Friday afternoon attempting to tackle a widening crisis in the Middle East.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">With the Israel-Hamas war approaching its 100-day mark, Algeria was granted a briefing on Friday following its request for the council to meet over what it calls the threat of forced displacement of Gazans by Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 480px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-68291-1\" width=\"480\" height=\"272\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/VID-20240115-WA0035.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/VID-20240115-WA0035.mp4\">https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/VID-20240115-WA0035.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Later on Friday, the 15-member council discussed the escalating conflict in the Red Sea, ignited the incessant attacks on commercial vessels by Yemen\u2019s Houthis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Israel\u2019s U.N. envoy chided the Security Council for its relentless focus on Israel\u2019s effort to dismantle Hamas\u2019 terror regime in Gaza. Addressing the body, Ambassador Gilad Erdan noted actual displacements taking place elsewhere around the world\u2014actions that have not drawn a whisper from the council.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cAs we speak, there are over one million Muslims being forcibly removed from their homes, all of their possessions taken from them as they face poverty, famine and disease. No, I am not talking about the situation in Gaza, but about Pakistan\u2019s forced displacement of 1.3 million Afghans,\u201d said Erdan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">He claimed that if blame for controversial actions cannot be laid at the feet of Jews, the council apparently doesn\u2019t feel it is worthy of their time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cWhy does the forced displacement of Muslims from a Muslim country mean nothing to the Algerian representative and the council? I\u2019ll tell you why: No Jews, no news,\u201d said Erdan. \u201cOver the past decade, 50,000 Christians in Nigeria have been butchered and hacked to death. Is this even a concern to the council? Again, no Jews, no news.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">While the United States\u2019 ambassador to the United Nations criticized those Security Council members who \u201cstill cannot bring themselves\u201d to condemn Hamas\u2019 Oct. 7 massacre,\u00a0 of those still being held hostage in Gaza or criticize ongoing rocket attacks by Hamas and Hezbollah against Israel, she also criticized rhetoric from some Israeli ministers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cWe unequivocally reject statements by some Israeli ministers and lawmakers calling for a resettlement of Palestinians outside of Gaza,\u201d said Linda Thomas-Greenfield, claiming such statements are irresponsible and make securing a lasting peace more difficult.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">At the same time, Thomas-Greenfield questioned why some council members have \u201crefused to hold Hamas accountable for using civilians as human shields?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Thomas-Greenfield also called for calm in Judea and Samaria, condemning attacks by both Palestinian militants against Israeli civilians and Jewish residents against Palestinians.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Vassily Nebenzia, Russia\u2019s ambassador to the United Nations, continued on Friday to lambaste the United States over Washington\u2019s refusal to allow language demanding a ceasefire into Security Council resolutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">He also claimed that Israel\u2019s discussions regarding flooding Hamas\u2019s terror tunnel system with seawater would \u201ctrigger a massive environmental disaster and besides, render the enclave virtually uninhabitable,\u201d calling it potentially an act of genocide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Nebenzia also took a shot at the International Criminal Court, which critics say has been slow to advance a prosecution of Israel under its latest prosecutor, Karm Khan of Great Britain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Nebenzia said he did not expect Khan to \u201cfind the courage to go against his Western masters and their allies, whose political interests the ICC is serving.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Khan\u2019s office issued arrest warrants in March against Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian Commissioner for Children\u2019s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova, alleging responsibility for the war crime of unlawful deportation and transfer of children during the Russian-Ukraine War. It marked the first warrant the ICC has ever issued against the leader of a\u00a0permanent member\u00a0of the U.N. Security Council.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">While France, which holds the Security Council presidency this month, attacked Israel for its settlement policy, Ambassador Nicolas de Rivi\u00e8re did make a robust call on Friday for the immediate release of all remaining hostages held in Gaza.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cThis council must condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks committed by Hamas and other terrorist groups on Oct. 7, including sexual and gender-based violence used as a weapon of war,\u201d de Rivi\u00e8re added, emphasizing that France will advance action to establish sanctions against Hamas at the European level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Attention was then turned to the Houthis, whose relentless attacks on vessels in the Red Sea finally drew a significant international response on Thursday, with over 50 strikes on Houthis targets in Yemen conducted by the United States and United Kingdom, with support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Thomas-Greenfield told the council that the strikes, coming days after a Security Council resolution on the matter, were conducted to \u201cdisrupt and degrade\u201d the Houthis\u2019 \u201creckless attacks\u201d in the Red Sea and in the Gulf of Aden, calling the strikes necessary,\u00a0 proportionate, and consistent with international law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">She also urged council members and other states with influence over Iran to help bring about a change in Tehran\u2019s military and financial support for the Houthis\u2019 attacks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">A number of non-permanent members said that while they agree the Houthis\u2019 attacks are of major concern, they fear that the council\u2019s resolution passed earlier in the week may have been interpreted as a green-light for measures taken by Washington and London, which, they said, was not the intention.<\/span><!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_240116_135918_556.sdocx--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Mike Wagenheim (www.jns.org) The United Nations Security Council spent (last) Friday afternoon attempting to tackle a widening crisis in the Middle East.\u00a0 With the Israel-Hamas war approaching its 100-day mark, Algeria was granted a briefing on Friday following its request for the council to meet over what it calls the threat of forced displacement [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":68294,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7,5787],"tags":[3246,249,6454],"class_list":["post-68291","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news","category-world","tag-massacre","tag-nigeria","tag-palestinians"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/68291","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/7"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=68291"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/68291\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/68294"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=68291"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=68291"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=68291"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
