University of Applied Sciences and Management, Port Novo, Republic of Benin or any of its other campuses in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">2. Volta University College, Ho, Volta Region, Ghana or any of its other campuses in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">3. The International University, Missouri, USA, Kano and Lagos Study Centres, or any of its campuses in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">4. Collumbus University, UK operating anywhere in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">5. Tiu International University, UK operating anywhere in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">6. Pebbles University, UK operating anywhere in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">7. London External Studies UK operating anywhere in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">8. Pilgrims University operating anywhere in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">9. West African Christian University operating anywhere in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">10. EC-Council University, USA, Ikeja Lagos Study Centre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">11. Cape Coast University, Ghana, operating anywhere in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">16. African University Cooperative Development, Cotonou, Benin Republic, operating anywhere in Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">17. Pacific Western University, Denver, Colorado, Owerri Study Centre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">18. Evangel University of America and Chudick Management Academic, Lagos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">In another statement in Abuja on Tuesday, Mrs Augustina Obilor-Duru, Assistant Director, Press, Ministry of Education said the suspension affecting universities from Togo and Benin came as a result an investigative work by a journalist that led to a publication in the Daily Nigerian Newspaper on Dec. 30.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a reporter with the newspaper, Mr Umar Audu had carried out an investigation titled\u00a0UNDERCOVER: How DAILY NIGERIAN reporter bagged Cotonou varsity degree in six weeks, participated in NYSC scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Obilor-Duru said, however, that the suspension was pending the outcome of an investigation that would involve the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the two countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">She said that the investigation would also involve the ministries responsible for education in the two countries as well the Department of State Services (DSS), and the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">She called on the general public to support the efforts by showing understanding and providing useful information that would assist in finding lasting solutions to prevent further occurrence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cThis report lends credence to suspicions that some Nigerians deploy nefarious means and unconscionable methods to get a Degree with the end objective of getting graduate job opportunities for which they are not qualified.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cThe ministry has also commenced internal administrative processes to determine the culpability or otherwise of her staff for which applicable Public Service Rules would be applied.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cThe issue of\u00a0degree mills institutions, i.e institutions that exist on paper or operate in clandestine manner outside the control of regulators is a global problem\u00a0that all countries grapple with.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cThe ministry has been contending with the problem including illegal institutions located abroad or at home preying on unsuspecting, innocent Nigerians and some desperate Nigerians who deliberately patronise such outlets,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">She also said that periodically, warnings had been issued by the ministry and the National Universities Commission (NUC) against such institutions adding that in some instances, reports were made to security agencies to clamp down on the perpetrators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cThe ministry will continue to review its strategy to plug any loopholes, processes and procedures and deal decisively with any conniving officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cThe Ministry had always adopted the global standard for evaluation and accreditation of certificates of all forms which relies on receipt of the list of accredited courses and schools in all countries of the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cThe ministry wishes to assure Nigerians and the general public that, it is already putting in place mechanisms to sanitise the education sector.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201c This, including dissuading the quest for degree certificates (locally or from foreign countries) through a re-invigorated focus on inclusivity, reliance on all skill sets as directed by President Bola Tinubu,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">She also said that the ministry was, however, committed to collaborating with stakeholders, including civil society organisations, to consistently enhance the Nigerian education system. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u25cf Additional report by <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\"><b>NAN<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">.<\/span><!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_240103_220548_621.sdocx--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government has suspended the evaluation and accreditation of degree certificates from Benin and Togo Republics, just as it released a list of 18 foreign universities it has blacklisted and campuses in the country it ordered shut down.
