{"id":66812,"date":"2023-10-01T12:06:59","date_gmt":"2023-10-01T12:06:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=66812"},"modified":"2023-10-01T12:06:59","modified_gmt":"2023-10-01T12:06:59","slug":"tinubu-loses-as-us-court-orders-csu-to-release-records-to-atiku","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=66812","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu loses as US court orders CSU to release records to Atiku"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">The United States Court hearing the case of former Vice President of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar against President Bola Tinubu and the Chicago State University(CSU) has ruled that the University must release all non-confidential information relating to Tinubu, by Tuesday evening.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">The presiding judge, Nancy Maldonado, dismissed Tinubu\u2019s objection, and issued a two-day deadline to the 150 years old university to release the documents to Atiku.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">Judge Maldonado upheld the September 20 ruling of US Magistrate Judge, Jeffery Gilbert, who ordered the CSU to release Tinubu\u2019s academic records as requested by Atiku, stressing that the PDP candidate Atiku had the right to have access to the records.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cFor the reasons stated in the Court\u2019s accompanying Memorandum Opinion and Order, the Court overrules President Tinubu\u2019s objections (44] and adopts Judge Gilbert\u2019s recommended decision [40] in full.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cThe Court therefore grants Mr. Abubakar\u2019s application under 28 U.S.C. \u00a7 1782. [1],\u201d Justice Maldonado of the Northern District of Illinois ruled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">According to the judge, CSU must complete all necessary filings regarding the release by 5 p.m. on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">The court ruled, \u201cRespondent CSU is directed to produce all relevant and non-privileged documents in response to Requests for Production Nos. 1 through 4 (as narrowed by Judge Gilbert and adopted by the District Court in its opinion) in Mr. Abubakar\u2019s subpoena, by 12:00 p.m. (noon) CDT, on Monday, October 2, 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">\u201cThe Rule 30(b)(6) deposition of CSU\u2019s corporate designee must be completed by 5:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">The court explained that, for the avoidance of doubt, Tinubu\u2019s Certificate and academic transcripts are not confidential and therefore must be released<\/span><!--\/data\/user\/0\/com.samsung.android.app.notes\/files\/clipdata\/clipdata_bodytext_231001_130131_337.sdocx--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United States Court hearing the case of former Vice President of Nigeria Atiku Abubakar against President Bola Tinubu and the Chicago State University(CSU) has ruled that the University must release all non-confidential information relating to Tinubu, by Tuesday evening.
