{"id":6535,"date":"2017-12-18T19:12:12","date_gmt":"2017-12-18T19:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=6535"},"modified":"2017-12-18T19:12:12","modified_gmt":"2017-12-18T19:12:12","slug":"two-to-die-by-hanging-for-armed-robbery-in-ekiti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=6535","title":{"rendered":"Two to Die by hanging for armed robbery in Ekiti"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From <strong>Jimoh Joseph<\/strong>, Ado-Ekiti<br \/>\nTwo armed robbers, Michael Adams and Abass Mutiu, have been sentenced to<br \/>\ndeath by hanging by an Ado-Ekiti High Court for armed robbery and murder.<br \/>\nThe Chief Judge of the State, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, convicted the duo for<br \/>\ncommitting armed robbery contrary to Section (1) 2 (a) of the Robbery<br \/>\nand Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R11, Laws of the Federation<br \/>\nof Nigeria 2014.<br \/>\nDaramola also found them guilty of murder contrary to Section 316 (1)<br \/>\npunishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ekiti State,<br \/>\n2015.<br \/>\nThe Judge held that the defendants were found guilty of armed robbery and murder as presented before the court on the charge sheet.<br \/>\nHe ruled that they will face the supreme punishment for the commission<br \/>\nof the offence of armed robbery and murder.<br \/>\nThe judge subsequently imposed death penalty on them for the killing<br \/>\nof Adebola, ordering that they be hanged on the neck until they die.<br \/>\nAccording to the charge, Adams and Mutiu committed the offences on<br \/>\n22nd January, 2014 at Fiyinfolu Avenue, off Ilawe Road, Ado-Ekiti when<br \/>\nthey robbed one Arowosere Kabiru of N12,800 while armed with dangerous<br \/>\nweapons like guns and cutlasses.<br \/>\nThe two convicts in the course of their robbery operation murdered one<br \/>\nOjo Adebola.<br \/>\nThey were arraigned in court for the first time on 1st March, 2016<br \/>\nwhen the charges were read to them to which they pleaded not guilty.<br \/>\nA legal officer from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution<br \/>\n(DPP), Mrs. D. Oyewole, called four witnesses to prove the case.<br \/>\nTendered as exhibits are the statement of the accused, Indian hemp,<br \/>\ntwo motorcycles, cutlasses, cartridges, photographs of the deceased<br \/>\nand photographs of the parade of the convicts by the police.<br \/>\nThe accused were led in evidence by the State Director of Legal Aid<br \/>\nCouncil, Mr. Olaitan Adeloye.<br \/>\nOne of the eyewitnesses who was among the victims of the attack<br \/>\nidentified the accused persons at the identification parade conducted<br \/>\nby the state police command.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From Jimoh Joseph, Ado-Ekiti Two armed robbers, Michael Adams and Abass Mutiu, have been sentenced to death by hanging by an Ado-Ekiti High Court for armed robbery and murder.
