{"id":65087,"date":"2023-06-29T16:07:59","date_gmt":"2023-06-29T16:07:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=65087"},"modified":"2023-06-29T16:07:59","modified_gmt":"2023-06-29T16:07:59","slug":"im-not-interested-in-any-crown-except-olubadan-crown-rasheed-ladoja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=65087","title":{"rendered":"I\u2019m not interested in any crown, except Olubadan crown, Rasheed Ladoja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the Otun-Olubadan of Ibadanland, on Wednesday in Ibadan said he was not interested in wearing any other crown except the Olubadan crown.<\/p>\n<p>Ladoja told newsmen at his residence after the Eid prayers that it has always been his target to become an Olubadan and was not going to wear any other crown<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports there had been widespread speculation that the Ibadan high chiefs would be installed as beaded crown-wearing kings from July 7.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_65090\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-65090\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-65090\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/images.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-65090\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">High Chief Rasheed Ladoja<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Some high chiefs who were crowned during the administration of the late Abiola Ajimobi had surrendered the crowns after an out-of-court settlement.<\/p>\n<p>This was to pave way for Oba Lekan Balogun\u2019s ascension to the Olubadan throne.<\/p>\n<p>However, Ladoja said information at his disposal revealed that the high chiefs were now seeking permission to resume wearing of their surrendered crowns.<\/p>\n<p>Ladoja,\u00a0a former governor of Oyo State, said it was illegal for any Ibadan high chief to think he can resume wearing an already-surrendered beaded crown.<\/p>\n<p>He said there would not have been a new Olubadan of Ibadan by now if the high chiefs had failed to surrender their crowns and withdrew the case in court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI joined the Olubadan line on Oct. 1, 1993. I joined as \u2018Jagun Olubadan\u2019 and my target was to become Olubadan. I did not expect that I was going to wear any beaded crown on the way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I wanted to do that, I would have become the \u2018Baale\u2019 of my village and I will be called \u2018Baale\u2019. Our role as high chiefs is to advise and support the Olubadan, not to wear crown with him,\u201d Ladoja said.<\/p>\n<p>The former governor said he as an individual was not interested in any other crown apart from that of Olubadan of Ibadanland, adding \u201conly God chooses kings in Ibadan\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Ladoja expressed dismay at the fact that some high chiefs want to short-circuit the system, saying such was alien to the Ibadan tradition.<\/p>\n<p>He said that it was not fair or right to have high chiefs as kings, adding there was no need to mend what was not broken.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI told them the story of Aliiwo. When Aliiwo was coming from Iwo, he passed through Lagun village where he left his followers to stay with other warriors in Ibadan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf he had wanted to become Onilagun of Lagun, he would have done so. But people who started Ibadan said that they want to rule themselves.
