The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), says it has not devalued the naira to N631 from the previous rate of N461 per US$.<\/p>\n

But the newspaper that first published the story of the devaluation, Daily Trust, insists that CBN did, and states that it has evidence to prove it.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the apex bank, through its Director of Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin, earlier Wednesday, issued via its twitter page @cenbank.<\/p>\n

The statement reads in part:\u00a0The attention of the Central Bank of Nigeria has been drawn to a news report by Daily Trust Newspaper of 1 June titled: \u201cCBN Devalues Naira to N630\/$1\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the avoidance of doubt, exchange rate at the Investors\u2019 and Exporters (I&E) window traded this morning at N465 per US$1 and has been stable around this rate for a while.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe public is hereby advised to ignore the report, as it is speculative and calculated at causing panic in the market.<\/p>\n

\u201cMedia Practisioners are hereby advised to verify their facts from the Central Bank of Nigeria before publishing, in order not to misinformed the public.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
