{"id":6398,"date":"2017-12-14T21:16:41","date_gmt":"2017-12-14T21:16:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=6398"},"modified":"2017-12-14T21:16:41","modified_gmt":"2017-12-14T21:16:41","slug":"ekiti-killer-policeman-dismissed-remanded-in-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=6398","title":{"rendered":"Ekiti killer policeman dismissed, remanded in prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Jimoh Joseph, Ado-Ekiti<br \/>\nThe Police in Ekiti State yesterday dismissed a police corporal, Ayodele Famodimu, who allegedly shot a commercial driver, named Olabode Ojo dead at a checkpoint in Oye-Ekiti Tuesday evening.<br \/>\nFamodimu was dismissed after undergoing an orderly room trial. He also<br \/>\nappeared in court on Thursday and was remanded in prison custody.<br \/>\nThe dismissed corporal shot Ojo dead for refusing his demand for a gratification of N50 at the checkpoint.<br \/>\nPolice Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Alberto Adeyemi who confirmed<br \/>\nFamodimu\u2019s dismissal said policemen are not trained to kill civilian<br \/>\nbut to defend lives and property.<br \/>\nAdeyemi said: \u201cHe (Famodimu) has already been dismissed and as I am<br \/>\ntalking to you now, he is an ex-policeman. The case is now in court<br \/>\nand we have handed everything over to court to decide his fate.<br \/>\n\u201cWe did not train him to go and kill law-abiding citizens, we trained<br \/>\nhim to safeguard lives and property. Any of his ilk that goes against<br \/>\nthe law will face the music.\u201d<br \/>\nFamodimu was arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate\u2019s Court<br \/>\nwhere he was slammed with the charge of murder.<br \/>\nPolice Prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, brought a remand order<br \/>\nto the court. He said there was cause to order the remand of the<br \/>\naccused in custody for a reasonable length of time.<br \/>\nOkunade said the accused was suspected to have committed the offence<br \/>\nof the murder of a driver, Olabode Ojo and attempted murder of Azeez<br \/>\nAyodimeji.<br \/>\nThe offence, according to him, was punishable under Sections 319 and<br \/>\n324 of Criminal Code Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State 2012.<br \/>\nHe said the accused person committed the offence while in possession<br \/>\nof offensive weapons and was arrested with exhibits and was identified<br \/>\nby witnesses.<br \/>\nDefence counsel, Mr. Sunday Ochayi, did not oppose the remand order<br \/>\nbut said the remand order was an aftermath of negligence.<br \/>\nOchayi described the defendant as a police office officer who was<br \/>\nnegligent in line of his duty.
