{"id":63362,"date":"2023-04-01T03:37:40","date_gmt":"2023-04-01T03:37:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=63362"},"modified":"2023-04-01T03:37:40","modified_gmt":"2023-04-01T03:37:40","slug":"63362","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=63362","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria&#8217;s oil minister resigns to pursue governorship ambition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ambition to contest the Office of Governor of Bayelsa State informed the resignation\u00a0 of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources,\u00a0 Chief Timipre Sylva, it has emerged.<\/p>\n<p>Mid last year, Sylva was one of the ministers that toyed with the idea of becoming President of the country (see featured photo) on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but he quickly dropped that ambition for political expediency and retained his lucrative portfolio.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Abuja reported on Friday that the minister has\u00a0 submitted his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/p>\n<p>According to the sources,\u00a0 Sylva has intention to contest for the\u00a0 governorship election in Bayelsa\u00a0 and will participate in the forthcoming APC\u2019s primary election that is likely to hold anytime in April.<\/p>\n<p>Sylva had governed Bayelsa\u00a0 for one term and has constitutional rights\u00a0 to contest for another tenure.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile,\u00a0 when contacted,\u00a0 the Minister\u2019s Senior Adviser, Media and Communications, Horatius Egua said he could not deny or comfirm the resignation because he had not seen the resignation letter.He has not been officially informed of the resignation by the minister, the aide said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The ambition to contest the Office of Governor of Bayelsa State informed the resignation\u00a0 of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources,\u00a0 Chief Timipre Sylva, it has emerged.
