Days after his electronic media houses were bombed by unknown persons, a member of the House of Representatives and ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Chinyere Igwe, has been arrested with nearly $500,000.<\/p>\n
A police statement on Friday confirmed the development.\u00a0 It reads, \u201cPolice Officers from Rivers State Command deployed to INEC Headquarters Aba Road today 24\/2\/2023 at about 0245hrs, while on stop and search, arrested one Hon Chinyere Igwe, member House of Representatives representing Port Harcourt II Federal Constituency with a cash sum of $498,100 USD inside a bag in his car.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlso recovered was a list for distribution of the money. The Assistant Inspector General of Police (Election) AIG Abutu Yaro, has ordered swift interrogation and arraignment in court.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Command urges all contestants and political parties to comply strictly with provisions of the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Iringe-Koko, urged members of the public to report observations that could lead to crime or break down of law and order.<\/p>\n
There were reports that some of the names on the list found on the Federal lawmaker were those of security and electoral officers, though the Police did not confirm this.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
