{"id":60143,"date":"2022-10-06T07:44:12","date_gmt":"2022-10-06T07:44:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=60143"},"modified":"2022-10-06T07:44:12","modified_gmt":"2022-10-06T07:44:12","slug":"fg-declares-abuja-lokoja-road-no-go-area-for-now-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=60143","title":{"rendered":"FG declares Abuja-Lokoja road no-go area&#8230;for now (+Video)"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_60145\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60145\" style=\"width: 223px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-60145\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/IMG-20221006-WA0003-223x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"223\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60145\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abuja-Lokoja Road<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing has advised all motorists travelling to the North from the South-Western and South-Eastern parts of the country through Kogi State to avoid the Lokoja-Abuja dual carriageway.<\/p>\n<p>The advise came amid scary social media images and videos showing a long queue of vehicles sandwiched between flood water and vehicles, which a commentator described as amphibious, driving through flood waters.<\/p>\n<p>It also brought to the fore, on social media, directives attributed to Americans the need to avoid certain levels of flood water.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 352px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-60143-1\" width=\"352\" height=\"640\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/VID-20221006-WA0026.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/VID-20221006-WA0026.mp4\">https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/VID-20221006-WA0026.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>The Federal Controller of Works in Kogi, Engr Jimoh Kajogbola gave the advise in a statement on Wednesday in Lokoja and urged the motorists to take alternative routes.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the flooding of River Niger, which has overflowed the Lokoja-Abuja dual carriageway at Koton-Karfe has rendered it dangerous to road users.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Abuja-bound motorists from the South-West are advised to pass through the Ilorin-Mokwa-Bida road while motorists from the East and South-South are advised to pass through Makurdi-Lafia road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For those coming from the Northern parts to the south, he advised them to either take Abuja-Lafia-Makurd-Otukpa road or Abuja-Bida-Mokwa-Jebba road.<\/p>\n<p>The directive, he added, subsists until the water level recedes.<\/p>\n<p>According to the admonition attributed to the Americans,\u00a0&#8220;Driving through floodwaters can be fatal. If you must venture out, here\u2019s what you should know to stay safe&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;First and foremost, do not drive through floodwaters, even if the water does not look deep. If a road is flooded, turn around and find an alternate route&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt takes just 12 inches of flowing water to carry off a small car, (and) 18 to 24 inches for larger vehicles,\u201d the US National Weather Service warns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The water may also be hiding washed-out road surfaces, electrical wires, debris or other dangerous objects.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;More than half of all flooding deaths nationally occur when a vehicle is driven into hazardous flood water, according to the weather service.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you\u2019re on foot, you should also avoid flood waters, the weather service adds. Six inches of fast-moving floodwater can knock an adult down. Floodwaters may also 8contain downed power lines that could still electrocute a person&#8221;.
