Justice Fadima Murtala Aminu of the Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu, Yobe State has ordered the interim forfeiture of eleven\u00a0 landed properties, \u00a0in Damaturu metropolis,\u00a0 belonging to \u00a0Alhaji Idris Yahaya,\u00a0 the Auditor General of all the\u00a0 Local Government Areas, LGAs,\u00a0 of Yobe State.<\/p><\/div>\n

\u00a0She gave the order \u00a0on Wednesday, September 21, 2022,\u00a0 following an ex parte application filed by the Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, seeking an interim forfeiture of the properties.<\/p>\n

EFCC counsel, Mukhtar Ali Ahmed, \u00a0told the court that Yahaya\u00a0 had some landed properties suspected to be proceeds of crime, owing to \u00a0an alleged criminal diversion of public funds, abuse of office and money laundering reported to the Commission.<\/p>\n

A petitioner alleged that the suspect enriched himself by putting ghost workers into the payroll of LGAs in Yobe State\u00a0 and acquired\u00a0 landed properties from the proceeds of the crime.<\/p>\n

\u201cInvestigation by the EFCC showed that the suspect\u00a0 diverted huge sums of money from the coffers of Yobe LGAs and illegally acquired\u00a0 the following properties:<\/p>\n

Farsawa Plaza opposite First Bank of Nigeria Limited,\u00a0 along Gashua road, Damaturu, \u00a0a mega plaza opposite Central Bank of Nigeria complex, \u00a0situated along Gujba Road, Damaturu.\u00a0 Others are: 20 units of \u00a0self-contained,\u00a0\u00a0 four \u00a0units of single rooms self-contained and two units of rooms and parlor self-contained apartments, \u00a0\u00a0situated opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria Complex,\u00a0\u00a0 along Gujba road,\u00a0 \u00a0Damaturu.<\/p>\n

Also identified by the Commission are: \u00a0four \u00a0units of rooms and parlor self-contained apartment, \u00a0a fenced plot of land, three \u00a0bedroom flats and BB shopping complex,\u00a0\u00a0 all \u00a0situated opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria complex,\u00a0 along Gujba road, Damaturu.\u00a0 The rest are properties situated at plot number C300 at 440 Housing Estate, \u00a0Gujba road and BB Lounge, beside Nishadi Kilishi, \u00a0along Maiduguri road, Damaturu, Yobe State.<\/p>\n

Ahmed prayed the court to order the interim forfeiture of the \u00a0properties to the Federal Government\u00a0 and equally submitted that the suspect is living above his means as a civil servant.<\/p>\n

Consequently, Justice Aminu granted the application as prayed and ordered the interim forfeiture of the eleven landed properties. She also directed the publication of the order in any national newspaper, for the respondent or anyone having legal claims to the\u00a0 properties \u00a0to appear before the court, \u00a0\u201cto show cause within 14 days,\u00a0 why a final order of forfeiture should not be made.”<\/p>\n
