{"id":58727,"date":"2022-07-07T10:58:42","date_gmt":"2022-07-07T10:58:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=58727"},"modified":"2022-07-07T10:58:42","modified_gmt":"2022-07-07T10:58:42","slug":"aftermath-of-kuje-prison-attack-us-embassy-issues-security-advisory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=58727","title":{"rendered":"Aftermath of Kuje Prison attack: US Embassy issues security advisory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aftermath of Kuje Prison attack, US Embassy issues security advisor<\/p>\n<p>Following the attack of the Kuje Custodial Centre, the US Embassy in Abuja has issued a security advisory to its citizens to help them live and move around safely within the Federal Capital Territory.<\/p>\n<p>The instructive advisory is reproduced below:<\/p>\n<p>Security Alert: U.S. Embassy Abuja<\/p>\n<p>Location:\u00a0 Abuja, Nigeria<br \/>\nDate:\u00a0 July 6, 2022<br \/>\nEvent:\u00a0 Abuja FCT Prison Break near the airport on July 5, 2022<\/p>\n<p>On the night of July 5, 2022, an attack on Kuje Prison freed a large portion of the estimated 1,000 prisoners.\u00a0\u00a0The prison lies approximately 27 miles southwest of the Central Business District.\u00a0\u00a0An increase in crime is expected in and around Abuja.\u00a0\u00a0It is recommended that U.S. citizens should maintain a high state of personal security awareness for the next two weeks and avoid unnecessary travel on the airport road.<\/p>\n<p>Crime:<br \/>\nCrime is endemic throughout Nigeria and tends to spike after dark.\u00a0\u00a0Avoiding locations and situations that increase the likelihood of being victimized is the best defense.\u00a0\u00a0Avoid displays of valuables and limit nighttime activity.<\/p>\n<p>Terrorism:<br \/>\nTerrorist groups\u00a0and those inspired by such organizations are intent on attacking U.S. citizens abroad.\u00a0\u00a0Terrorists are increasingly using less sophisticated methods of attack\u00a0\u2013including knives,\u00a0firearms, and vehicles \u2013 to target crowds more effectively.\u00a0\u00a0Frequently, their aim is focused on unprotected or vulnerable targets, such as:<\/p>\n<p>High-profile public events (sporting contests, political rallies, demonstrations, holiday events, celebratory gatherings, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>Hotels, clubs, and restaurants frequented by tourists<\/p>\n<p>Places of worship<\/p>\n<p>Schools<\/p>\n<p>Parks<\/p>\n<p>Shopping malls and markets<\/p>\n<p>Public transportation systems (including subways, buses, trains, and scheduled commercial flights)<\/p>\n<p>Actions to Take:<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Be aware of your surroundings.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Keep a low profile.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Carry proper identification.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Monitor local media for updates.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Review your personal security plans.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Always drive with your windows rolled up and the doors locked.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Avoid large gatherings and protests.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Review alternative travel routes in case of unexpected protests or unrest.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.<br \/>\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Always keep the doors to your residence locked, even when at home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aftermath of Kuje Prison attack, US Embassy issues security advisor Following the attack of the Kuje Custodial Centre, the US Embassy in Abuja has issued a security advisory to its citizens to help them live and move around safely within the Federal Capital Territory.
