The\u00a0Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released from its detention facility the suspended Accountant-General of the Federation,\u00a0Mr Ahmed Idris.<\/p>\n
Idris was released from EFCC custody after meeting his bail conditions, according to the Head of Media and Public Affairs of the commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren.<\/p>\n
\u201cI actually do not have idea of what the bail conditions are but all I can tell you is that he has been released after meeting his bail conditions\u201d, Uwujaren told journalists on Thursday in Abuja.<\/p>\n
His release come amid reports that he may have implicated other top government officials in other cases of fraud that have been estimated at N200 billion.<\/p>\n
At least one of those arrested was former the former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, who is still in detention.<\/p>\n
Over two weeks ago, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,\u00a0\u00a0announced the arrest of Idris in connection with\u00a0\u00a0diversion of funds and money laundering\u00a0\u00a0activities to the tune of N80billion (Eighty Billion Naira only).<\/p>\n
Uwujaren said the commission\u2019s verified intelligence showed that the AGF raked off the funds\u00a0 through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0funds\u00a0were\u00a0laundered\u00a0through\u00a0real\u00a0estate\u00a0investments\u00a0in\u00a0Kano\u00a0and\u00a0Abuja.<\/p>\n
Mr. Idris was arrested after failing to honour invitations by the EFCC to respond to issues connected to the fraudulent acts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
