{"id":57882,"date":"2022-05-29T06:49:44","date_gmt":"2022-05-29T06:49:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=57882"},"modified":"2022-05-29T06:49:44","modified_gmt":"2022-05-29T06:49:44","slug":"confirmed-atiku-beats-wike-others-for-pdp-ticket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=57882","title":{"rendered":"CONFIRMED: Atiku beats Wike, others for PDP ticket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the second time around, former Vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, will be the official flagbearer of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>He trounced Governors Nyesom Wike, Bala Mohammed, former Senate President Bukola Saraki and others at the party\u2019s Special National Convention and presidential primary election in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Just 10 minutes before Sunday, he was announced the polling 371 votes. Wike got 237 votes; and Saraki 70 votes.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom polled (38), Bala Mohammed of Bauchi (38), former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim (14), Mrs Tari Diana Oliver (1),\u00a0 and Sam Ohuabunwa (1).<\/p>\n<p>It will be the sixth time in his 75 years on earth that Atiku will be vying to run Nigeria, and in his victory speech, he promised to unify Nigeria, a country almost stripped down the Middle along ethnic and religious lines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI pledge to unify this country,\u201d he said in his victory speech. \u201cThat\u2019s why I refer to myself as a unifier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason I feel that unity is important is because APC has disunited Nigerians completely,\u201d the PDP chieftain added. \u201cI will work to restore unity and bring a sense of belonging to all Nigerians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of mismanaging the country but promised to fix the economy and tackle Nigeria\u2019s security challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe PDP made Nigeria one of the most prosperous countries in Africa. We implemented economic reforms. The APC wiped out all those gains.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"td-outer-wrap\" class=\"td-theme-wrap\">\n<div class=\"td-main-content-wrap td-container-wrap\">\n<div class=\"td-container td-post-template-default \">\n<div class=\"td-pb-row\">\n<div class=\"td-pb-span8 td-main-content\" role=\"main\">\n<div class=\"td-ss-main-content\">\n<article id=\"post-109377\" class=\"post-109377 post type-post status-publish format-standard has-post-thumbnail hentry category-breaking-news\">\n<div class=\"td-post-content tagdiv-type\">\n<p>Aminu Tambuwal, the Sokoto governor and aspirant, gave Atiku an easier leeway to emerge victorious when he suddenly withdrew from the race, as voting was about to begin, and\u00a0 called on his delegates to cast their votes for Atiku.<\/p>\n<p>Three year ago Tambuwal was first runner up to Atiku in 2019 at the party\u2019s presidential primary election in Port Harcourt, receiving the full backing of Wike then.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Tambuwal easily forgot Wike\u2019s gesture in what some observers see as backing his own northern brother; while others say it was a grand plot by the &#8216;PDP cabal&#8217; to give Wike a bloody nose and whittle down his power in the party.
