{"id":57654,"date":"2022-05-18T18:30:17","date_gmt":"2022-05-18T18:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=57654"},"modified":"2022-05-18T18:30:17","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T18:30:17","slug":"accountant-general-idris-suspended-from-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=57654","title":{"rendered":"Accountant-General Idris suspended from office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To allow for a proper and unhindered investigation of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, over financial impropriety, he has been suspended indefinitely by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmed announced the suspension of the AGF in a letter dated May 18, 2022, two days after he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).<\/p>\n<p>The minister stated that the suspension was to allow for \u201cproper and unhindered investigation\u201d in line\u00a0with public service rules.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the EFCC announced that its operatives arrested Idris in connection with\u00a0\u00a0diversion of funds and money laundering\u00a0\u00a0activities to the tune of N80billion (Eighty Billion Naira only).<\/p>\n<p>It added: &#8220;The Commission\u2019s verified intelligence showed that the AGF raked off the funds through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;The funds were laundered through real estate investments in Kano and Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mr. Idris was arrested after failing to honour invitations by theEFCC to respond to issues connected to the fraudulent acts.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To allow for a proper and unhindered investigation of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, over financial impropriety, he has been suspended indefinitely by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.
