Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,\u00a0\u00a0on Monday, May 16, 2022 arrested serving Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris in connection with\u00a0\u00a0diversion of funds and money laundering\u00a0\u00a0activities to the tune of N80billion (Eighty Billion Naira only).<\/p>\n
The\u00a0Commission\u2019s\u00a0verified\u00a0intelligence\u00a0showed\u00a0that\u00a0the\u00a0AGF\u00a0\u00a0raked\u00a0off\u00a0the\u00a0funds\u00a0through\u00a0bogus\u00a0consultancies\u00a0and\u00a0other\u00a0illegal\u00a0activities\u00a0using\u00a0proxies,\u00a0family\u00a0members\u00a0and\u00a0close\u00a0associates.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0funds\u00a0were\u00a0laundered\u00a0through\u00a0real\u00a0estate\u00a0investments\u00a0in\u00a0Kano\u00a0and\u00a0Abuja.<\/p>\n
Mr.\u00a0Idris\u00a0was\u00a0arrested\u00a0after\u00a0failing\u00a0to\u00a0honour\u00a0invitations\u00a0by\u00a0theEFCC\u00a0to\u00a0respond\u00a0to\u00a0issues\u00a0connected\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0fraudulent\u00a0acts.<\/p>\n
