{"id":57580,"date":"2022-05-15T16:00:57","date_gmt":"2022-05-15T16:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=57580"},"modified":"2022-05-15T16:00:57","modified_gmt":"2022-05-15T16:00:57","slug":"variants-of-prosperity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=57580","title":{"rendered":"Variants of prosperity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>THE MATTER OF PROSPERITY <\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Nothing generates impassioned debate in Christian circles like the matter of wealth and prosperity. <b>There are those who believe it is a blessing, while others view it as a sin or even a curse<\/b>. Both sides have as many proponents as it has opponents. <b>Both are simplistic and wrong.<\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><i>The Bible has much to say about wealth and prosperity. <\/i><b><i>And no where does it suggests any of the extreme positions<\/i><\/b><i> we see in the debate.<\/i>_<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><i>First, <\/i><b><i>Biblical prosperity is not about one&#8217;s bank balances and property portfolio<\/i><\/b><i>. It is about\u00a0 a wholesome life of peace, joy and love that only God in Christ gives.<\/i><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><b><i>&#8220;&#8230; I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly&#8221;<\/i><\/b><i>(John 10:10)<\/i><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><i>The Bible also speaks of <\/i><b><i>different kinds of &#8220;prosperity&#8221;:<\/i><\/b><i> That of the <\/i><b><i>wicked<\/i><\/b><i>, The <\/i><b><i>fool<\/i><\/b><i> and The <\/i><b><i>righteous<\/i><\/b><i>. These we shall examine in the part second part of this discourse.<\/i><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><b><i>&#8220;&#8230; Life is not measured by how much you own.\u201d<\/i><\/b><i> (Luke 12:15b, NLT)<\/i><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">____________________________________<\/p>\n<p>The belief that wealth, health and &#8216;success&#8217; are an evidence of God&#8217;s blessings and approval is as old as the days of Patriach Job and the\u00a0 Disciples of Jesus; what a fallacy. For &#8220;prosperity&#8221; comes in variants.<\/p>\n<p>\u00b6 The wicked do &#8220;prosper&#8221;, albeit momentarily, from their wickedness. David and prophet Jeremiah, in their days, had an issue with God\u00a0 on that (Ps.73: Jer. 12)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b6 Prosperity also comes to the &#8220;foolish&#8221;. They amass and selfishly flaunt it on vanities and\u00a0 conspicuous consumption (Luke 12:16-21)<\/p>\n<p>\u00b6 There is the prosperity of the righteous.
