{"id":57346,"date":"2022-04-29T12:51:15","date_gmt":"2022-04-29T12:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=57346"},"modified":"2022-04-29T12:51:15","modified_gmt":"2022-04-29T12:51:15","slug":"two-bankers-jailed-for-robbing-dead-customer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=57346","title":{"rendered":"Two bankers jailed for robbing dead customer"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_57347\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-57347\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-57347\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/IMG-20220428-WA0001-260x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-57347\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Above and below: the two bankers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><b>Court Jails Two Bankers for Stealing N2.9m from Dead Customer<\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0Justice Elias Abua of the Cross River State High Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State, has convicted and sentenced two former bankers: Titus Chima Nwankwo and Utibe-Abasi Ifiok George\u00a0\u00a0for stealing the sum of N2,900,000( Two Million, Nine Hundred Thousand Naira only)\u00a0\u00a0from the account of a deceased customer of a commercial bank.<\/p>\n<p>Nwankwo and George\u00a0\u00a0were jailed\u00a0\u00a0on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 after pleading guilty to\u00a0\u00a0one-count separate charges\u00a0\u00a0bordering on forgery, conspiracy, breach of trust and stealing, upon their arraignment by the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.<\/p>\n<p>In view of their pleas, prosecution counsel, Joshua Abolarin\u00a0prayed the court to convict and sentence the defendants accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Abua convicted and\u00a0sentenced\u00a0George to three months imprisonment with an option of\u00a0fine of N100, 000.00 (One Hundred Thousand Naira only) while\u00a0\u00a0Nwankwo bagged three months imprisonment with an option of fine of N50,000.00 ( Fifty Thousand Naira only).<\/p>\n<p>The convicts\u2019 journey to the Correctional Centre started on June 16, 2021 when a petitioner alleged that they conspired and forged the signature of one Godfried Francis Osso, a deceased customer of a bank and fraudulently diverted the said sum for their personal uses.
