Suspended last Friday for criticising President Muhammadu Buhari over the security situation in the country, reports say the Chief Imam of Apo Legislative Quarters Juma\u2019at Mosque in Abuja, Sheikh Nuru Khalid, may have been sacked by the mosque\u2019s Steering Committee.<\/p>\n
One report said the Steering Committee on Monday afternoon declared him sacked.<\/p>\n
He was sacked for allegedly not showing remorse after his suspension.<\/p>\n
Reacting to his sack, Khalid told the Vanguard newspaper, “My sack is a reflection of how Nigeria is today. Many people are hiding under the cover of religion to perpetrate all manner unwholesome acts.<\/p>\n
\u201cSuch people would stop at nothing to take away people like me.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the price we pay for aligning with the people and identifying with their sufferings.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy the Grace of Almighty Allah, I will be leading my new congregation this Friday, because as clerics we need a platform to operate.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a Jum\u2019mat mosque we built behind the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Quarters, in Abuja; I will now be leading the congregation there.”<\/p>\n
