{"id":5057,"date":"2017-09-20T15:41:35","date_gmt":"2017-09-20T15:41:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=5057"},"modified":"2017-09-20T15:41:35","modified_gmt":"2017-09-20T15:41:35","slug":"group-plans-anambra-mock-election-mulls-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=5057","title":{"rendered":"Group plans Anambra mock election, mulls 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amidst security concerns in the South-East, a group, Good Circle International Organisation,GCIO, has unveiled its\u00a0plans to organize a Mock Election ahead of the November 18th, 2017\u00a0Anambra gubernatorial election.<br \/>\nThe Mock election according to the group will be modelled after\u00a0expectations in the real election being organized by INEC for the\u00a0election day.<br \/>\nBut an INEC insider said yesterday evening that the commission was not and could not be involved in the mock elections, because it was outside its legal purview.<br \/>\nOther sources feared it was being sponsored by &#8220;politicians for a predetermined result to throw up a candidate,&#8221; and give &#8220;an impression he is the people&#8217;s choice,&#8221;<br \/>\nBut what happens if he loses the main election? Is that not preparing grounds for trouble in a volatile region?&#8221; one asked.<br \/>\nHowever GCIO in its statement by spokesman, Ogechukwu Okeke, said mock ballot papers with Party Logos and candidates will\u00a0be availed to prospective voters across the State for casting of\u00a0votes.<br \/>\nThe statement reads further:<br \/>\nSpeaking in Abuja yesterday, the National Coordinator of GCIO,Mr.\u00a0Esanerovo Agbodo said that the group&#8217;s \u00a0organization of the mock\u00a0election is a strategy \u00a0to ensure that voters are extensively familiar\u00a0with the electoral and voting process before the real INEC election\u00a0day. He added that the Anambra election is a test case ahead of the\u00a02019 general elections which the group plans to also hold across\u00a0Nigeria.<br \/>\n&#8220;In a democracy, elections are too important to be treated lightly\u00a0because the social and economic developments of a country largely\u00a0depend on the quality of leaders elected into power. The prospective\u00a0voters need to be familiar with all the processes, the candidates and\u00a0logos of political parties and understand other requirement for voters\u00a0as well as get regular updates from INEC.<br \/>\n&#8220;A situation where voters are\u00a0exposed to unforeseen circumstances on Election Day has led to\u00a0disenfranchisements, nullification of votes casted and even misplaced\u00a0voting for unintended candidates is not encouraging&#8221;, he said.<br \/>\nPolitical parties and candidates are already enlisting to participate\u00a0in the Mock elections and modalities and date will be unveiled\u00a0soon,Mr. Agbodo added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amidst security concerns in the South-East, a group, Good Circle International Organisation,GCIO, has unveiled its\u00a0plans to organize a Mock Election ahead of the November 18th, 2017\u00a0Anambra gubernatorial election.
