{"id":4415,"date":"2017-08-14T20:39:50","date_gmt":"2017-08-14T20:39:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=4415"},"modified":"2017-08-14T20:39:50","modified_gmt":"2017-08-14T20:39:50","slug":"universities-may-be-shut-indefinitely-as-asuu-members-down-the-chalk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=4415","title":{"rendered":"Universities may be shut indefinitely as ASUU members down the chalk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After months of huffing and puffing, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has proceeded on an indefinite strike, dropping the proverbial chalk.<br \/>\nAs always, ASUU blamed government&#8217;s reneging on past agreements for the decision of its members to down the chalk.<br \/>\nMembers voted to proceed on the strike in a referendum at all local branches, which was compiled in the University of Abuja, Giri, right under the nose of the federal authorities.<br \/>\nA memo from ASUU to members reads:\u201cThe national executive council (NEC) of ASUU met at the university of Abuja main campus, Giri, on the 12th of August 2017 to consider the results of a referendum from all branches in a bid to ascertain ways of convincing government to implement outstanding aspects of the 2009 agreement and MoU of 2013.<br \/>\n\u201cThe result of the referendum showed that an overwhelming majority of the branches of our union voted for the strike.<br \/>\n\u201cIn the light of the foregoing, and having exhausted all avenues to get the government to fully implement the 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement and the 2013 MoU as well as related demands, resolved to embark on a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike action commencing Sunday, 13th August 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After months of huffing and puffing, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has proceeded on an indefinite strike, dropping the proverbial chalk.
