The Senate on Tuesday received a request from President Muhammadu Buhari to confirm the nomination of Mu\u2019azu Jaji Sambo from Taraba State as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n
The confirmation request was contained in a letter dated December 8, 2021, and read on the floor during the start of plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan. <\/p>\n\n\n
President Buhari, in the letter explained that the request was made in accordance with Section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). <\/p>\n\n\n
In another letter dated December 10, 2021, President Muhammadu Buhari sought the confirmation of the appointment of five nominees as Commissioners for the National Population Commission (NPC). <\/p>\n\n\n
The letter reads in part, \u201cIn accordance with the provision of Section 154 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), I hereby forward for confirmation, by the Senate, the under-listed nominees as Commissioners in the National Population Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
The nominees are Engineer Benedict Ukpong (Akwa Ibom), Mrs. Gloria Izonfo (Bayelsa), Barr. Patricia O. Inyanya Kupuchi (Benue), Dr. Bala Haliru (Kebbi) and Dr. Eyitayo Oyetunji (Oyo).<\/p>\n\n\n
Also, the Senate received a formal request from the President to confirm the appointment of six nominees as National Commissioners, and one other as Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). <\/p>\n\n\n
The request was contained in a letter dated December 10, 2021, and read during plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.<\/p>\n\n\n
Buhari explained that the request was made pursuant to paragraph 14 of Part (1) of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution (as amended). <\/p>\n\n\n
The letter reads: \u201cPursuant to paragraph 14 of Part (1) of the Third Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), I hereby forward for the confirmation, by the Senate, the appointment of the underlisted nominees as National Commissioners and Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
The nominees include Mal. Mohammed Haruna, National Commissioner (Niger \u2013 North Central), Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu (Delta \u2013 South-South), Ukeagu Kenneth Nnamdi (Abia \u2013 South East), and Major General A. B. Alkali (rtd) \u2013 Adamawa, (North East).<\/p>\n\n\n
Others are Engr. (Prof.) Rhoda H. Gumus (Bayelsa \u2013 South-South), Mr. Sam Olumekan (Ondo \u2013 South West), and Olaniyi Olaleye Ijalaye (Ondo \u2013 South West), Resident Electoral Commissioner.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
