The Management of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi, has distanced itself from the alleged conduct of Dr Felix Anyaegbunam who has been dubbed \u2018Professor of Rape\u2019 after serial allegations of sexual molestation of teenagers in his custody.<\/p>\n\n\n
The university has also clarified Anyaegbunam\u2019s position in the institution saying that he is not a professor but a senior lecturer.<\/p>\n\n\n
NAN reports that the Police Command in Ebonyi had on Sunday arrested Anyaegbunam after he was alleged to have violated the daughter of his gateman.<\/p>\n\n\n
It was alleged that he had been sexually violating the 13-year-old girl who hails from Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi.<\/p>\n\n\n
A statement issued by the university\u2019s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ikechukwu Elom to reporters in Abakaliki on Tuesday, said the school \u201cis a serious public institution guided by the core values of excellence, integrity and does not condone any form of criminality.<\/p>\n\n\n
\u201cThe attention of the Management of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi has been drawn to the news making the rounds in both the traditional and new media about a lecturer in the university alleged to have sexually molested a minor and house-help,\u201d he said of the rape allegations against the lecturer.<\/p>\n\n\n
\u201cWe wish to state as follows that the school management is yet to receive official report or complaint on the alleged crime; (but) will act accordingly as soon as such report is made.<\/p>\n\n\n
\u201cContrary to media report, Anyaegbunam is not a Professor of Geophysics in our university, but a senior lecturer in the Department of Physics,\u201d the Alex Ekwueme University spokesman said in response to the rape allegations.<\/p>\n\n\n
It would be recalled that the Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Loveth Odah had said that the suspect was in their custody.<\/p>\n\n\n
Odah had further deposed that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Aliyu Garba, has ordered discreet investigation into the matter as the medical screening of the victim is being awaited,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n
Recall that the state Coordinator, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Mrs Faithvin Nwancho, who reported the incident to the Police decried the act of rape.<\/p>\n\n\n
Nwancho urged the police to ensure justice on the matter, noting that the Professor had once impregnated another teenager which led to her dropping out of school.<\/p>\n\n\n
\u201cThis Professor at the AI-FUNAI has been having sex with the 13 year old girl. The girl stays with him, but every blessed day of this girl\u2019s life, this man violates her sexually,\u201d she alleged in her submission that culminated in the arrest of the lecturer over serial rape of teenagers in his custody.<\/p>\n\n\n
\u201cHe sleeps with her. As God may have it, we were told about it and so we moved into action and the girl was rescued. A complaint was made to the police and he was arrested,\u201d the Coordinator stated.<\/p>\n\n\n
