{"id":36560,"date":"2021-10-31T18:45:30","date_gmt":"2021-10-31T17:45:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=36560"},"modified":"2021-10-31T18:45:30","modified_gmt":"2021-10-31T17:45:30","slug":"atikus-man-iyorchia-ayu-emerges-pdp-national-chairman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=36560","title":{"rendered":"Atiku&#8217;s man, Iyorchia Ayu, emerges PDP national chairman; and Governors&#8217; intrigues with &#8216;Unity List&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former President of the Senate and political ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 69 years old Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, is the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atiku is one of the prominent members of the opposition party interested in the party&#8217;s presidential ticket for the 2023 election.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ayu emerged as a concensus candidate from the North-Central zone in&nbsp; the convention that saw three positions contested for. The winners of the contested seats are:<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Deputy National Chairman (North) \u2013 Umar Damagum<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Deputy National Chairman (South) \u2013 Taofeek Arapaja<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 National Youth Leader \u2013 Muhammed Suleiman<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Taofeek Arapaja, riding on the backing he got from Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, defeated a former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, for the position of Deputy National Chairman (South) by 2,004 to 705 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Makinde is believed to have included Arapaja\u2019s name in a \u201cUnity List\u201d, drawn up by bigwigs of the PDP, peopled mainly by Governors. The list also saw to the emergence of others like Damagum and Suleiman.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Umar Damagum, former governorship candidate in Yobe State, polled 2,222 votes to beat Inna Ciroma, former Minister of Women Affairs from Borno State, who got 365 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Muhammed Suleiman from Kaduna State scored 3,072 votes to defeat Usman Elkudan, also from Kaduna State, who got 219 votes for the position of National Youth Leader.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The other 17 offices were not contested and those fielded were returned unopposed.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are:<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 National Secretary \u2013 Samuel Anyanwu<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 National Treasurer \u2013 Ahmed Mohammed<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 National Organising Secretary \u2013 Umar Bature<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 National Financial Secretary \u2013 Daniel Woyegikuro<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 National Women\u2019s Leader \u2013 Professor Stella Effah-Attoe<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 National Legal Adviser \u2013 Kamaldeen Ajibade<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 National Publicity Secretary \u2013 Debo Ologunagba<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 National Auditor \u2013 Okechuckwu Daniel<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Deputy National Secretary \u2013 Setoji Kosheodo<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Deputy National Treasurer \u2013 Ndubisi David<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Deputy National Publicity Secretary \u2013 Ibrahim Abdullahi<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Deputy National Organising Secretary \u2013 Ighoyota Amori<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Deputy National Financial Secretary \u2013 Adamu Kamale<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Deputy National Women\u2019s Leader \u2013 Hajara Wanka<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Deputy National Youth Leader \u2013 Timothy Osadolor<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Deputy National Legal Adviser \u2013 Okechukwu Osuoha<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022 Deputy National Auditor \u2013 Abdulrahman Mohammed<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Ayu said, \u201cThe PDP is back. We are determined. The other one is a contraption. PDP did it before, we will do it again. This is a quit notice to the other party. We are taking back the country. We will develop the country.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn two weeks time, you will see the power that will come back in PDP in every state. A small group of people decided to divide Nigeria. We will unite the country and move ahead to develop this country,\u201d Ayu said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ayu replaces suspended former National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.
