{"id":35788,"date":"2021-09-24T12:52:04","date_gmt":"2021-09-24T11:52:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=35788"},"modified":"2021-09-24T12:52:04","modified_gmt":"2021-09-24T11:52:04","slug":"annoying-comments-by-british-culture-secretary-on-stolen-benin-bronzes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=35788","title":{"rendered":"Annoying comments by British Culture Secretary on stolen Benin bronzes as High Commissioner speaks on corruption (+Video)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/VID-20210924-WA0011.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On a day, the British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Catriona Laing, was identifying corruption as Nigeria\u2019s major problem, a video has emerged showing the British Secretary of Culture having difficulty admitting that the British stole artefacts from the Benin Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said the country is blessed with the human and material resources needed for its desired development but was being tied down by pervasive corrupt practices<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Laing spoke Thursday when she visited the country home of former House of Representatives member, Prince Ned Nwoko, at his country home in Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha North Local Government area of Delta State.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The high commissioner said Nigeria has sufficient resources that should be harnessed for its future advancement in different areas of endeavours.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said: \u201cThe tragedy of Nigeria is corruption, otherwise the country is enormously blessed with human and material resources for the needed development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Laing hailed Nwoko for establishing a Sports university called STARS University in his community, as well as his drive for the eradication of malaria from Africa through the Ned Nwoko Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She noted that such an institution would create the platform for sports development and in turn bring economic gains, as people would leverage on the dynamics of sporting business to invest.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nwoko restated his commitment to contribute to Nigeria\u2019s development, saying restructuring remained important in the efforts to tackle the current challenges rocking the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lawyer said his proposed model for restructuring focuses on \u201ccomplete autonomy to local governments and total overhaul of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u25aa\ufe0e Additional report by <strong>The Nation<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On a day, the British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Catriona Laing, was identifying corruption as Nigeria\u2019s major problem, a video has emerged showing the British Secretary of Culture having difficulty admitting that the British stole artefacts from the Benin Kingdom.
