{"id":35036,"date":"2021-08-10T14:29:18","date_gmt":"2021-08-10T13:29:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=35036"},"modified":"2021-08-10T14:29:18","modified_gmt":"2021-08-10T13:29:18","slug":"defiant-church-holds-at-demolished-site-in-maiduguri-mbf-calls-for-zulums-response","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=35036","title":{"rendered":"Defiant, Church holds at demolished site in Maiduguri; MBF Calls for Zulum&#8217;s response"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls src=\"blob:https:\/\/everyday.ng\/5f9fb83a-b165-4e4f-9958-bf76c5b88dfa\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>Members of the demolished Ekilisiya Yan\u2019uwa a Nigeria\u2019, popularly known as\u00a0\u2018The Brethren in Nigeria\u2019\u00a0 (EYN) in the Borno State defied the elements on Sunday, and held their congregational service in the open space that once housed their church building.\nRecall that one life, that of Ezekiel Bulus, was lost when officials of the Borno State Geographic Information System (BOGIS) came to destroy the structure housing the church.\nMeanwhile, Advocacy group,\u00a0the Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has called on Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to bring to book those behind last Thursday violence that greeted the demolition.\nNational Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Dr. Isuwa Dogo, said in the statement he penned:\u201cThe Forum is shocked that the demolition of the Church was done without recourse to due process. That the demolition instantly caused outrage that led to the killing of a citizen by the security operatives demonstrates the arrogance of some of our security personnel in violating the rights of citizens to peaceful protest.\n\u201cAs the umbrella organisation for all ethnic nationalities in the Middle Belt Region, the Forum\u00a0is concerned with growing religious intolerance that seems to have the support of some bad elements in the corridor of power. We deplore such an attitude and call on the Borno State Government to checkmate those determined to foster a culture of religious discrimination.\u201d\nMBF called on Governor Zulum to put a stop to all attempts to deny Nigerians the right to freedom of religion and end further destruction of worship centres without recourse to due process.\nMBF adds, \u201cThe Borno State Government should call BOGIS to order to forestall a recurrence of unjust demolition of churches. Demolishing worship centres without following the due process is an inexcusable act of illegality. Killing a citizen in the process of carrying out such an act of illegality is a tragedy of a monumental proportion.\n\u201cAs enshrined in the nation\u2019s constitution, Nigerians have religious freedoms, including the right to build and assemble in worship centres. When this right is violated and worship centres pulled down with no prior notice, then, such rights are deemed to suffer from assaults.\n\u201cWe are aware that the demolition of the EYN Church is the fourth since the emergence of Governor Zulum in 2015. If nothing is done to stop this trend, the prospects of peace along religious inclinations may suffer irretrievably. We call on the governor to rein in the illegal activities of BOGIS whose activities are creating widening gulf and threatening peaceful co-existence of citizens.\u201d\nThe group asked for all those who demolished the EYN Church to be fished out and brought to justice.\nit adds, \"Governor Zulum should honour his promise to dispassionately look into the issue in order to compensate victims and redress the circumstances that led to the destruction of the EYN Church.\u201d<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":35037,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[1821,2172,243],"class_list":["post-35036","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-uncategorized","tag-eyn","tag-mbf","tag-zulum"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/35036","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/7"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=35036"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/35036\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=35036"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=35036"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=35036"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
