\nJonathan sues for peace as ex-PDP ministers pays him Sallah visit
\nFormer President Dr Goodluck Jonathan on Monday urged Nigerians to\u00a0work for peace and unity of the country, stressing that no nation\u00a0truly develops under an atmosphere of tension and distrust.
\nThe ex-President made the plea yesterday while hosting the Forum of ex-Ministers of the Peoples Democratic Party who paid him a Sallah\u00a0visit yesterday.
\nJonathan who also commended Muslims for always taking the time of\u00a0Ramadan to pray for the good of the nation, noted that peace was\u00a0paramount in the life of any nation, adding that investors are always\u00a0wary of an uncertain environment.
\nHe said: \u201cI commend our Moslem brothers for always using this period\u00a0to pray for peace in the county. We all should use this period to\u00a0realise that the unity of the country is paramount because we cannot\u00a0develop as a nation except we have peace. No matter how people\u00a0demonstrate, no president can do magic if there is so much tension in\u00a0the land.
\n\u201cOnce there is a sense of insecurity in any country investors will\u00a0maintain their distance. \u00a0When that happens of course, the economy\u00a0will drop. What makes investors develop confidence in an economy is\u00a0peace, because nobody want to go and invest where they are not sure of\u00a0the security of their workers and their investments. So we should all\u00a0pray and work towards peace because that is the only way we can as a\u00a0nation truly work for our own good and the good of our economy.\u201d
\nChairman of the Forum \u00a0Alhaji \u00a0Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) commended\u00a0Jonathan for all he had sacrificed to keep the nation together,\u00a0saying:\u00a0We are members of the Forum of PDP ministers from 1999 to 2015. It\u00a0comprises those who served as ministers under Presidents Obasanjo and\u00a0Yar\u2019Adua and \u00a0those who served under you (Jonathan). We decided to pay our Sallah homage to you. We have always maintained that tradition of visiting you \u00a0during Sallah, Christmas or any other festivity for that\u00a0matter. That has been you practice to host us and in the process give\u00a0us the opportunity to interact at interpersonal levels as well as\u00a0discuss issues that are not only of mutual interest to us but those\u00a0that affect our nation generally.
\n\u201cRecall that on several occasions during your time as President you\u00a0had a cause to also fast during the time of Ramadan to identify\u00a0yourself with Muslims in this country and to show them that as a father and a leader you are not only with them in spirit but also with them in practice. \u00a0We also want to appreciate you as the leader of our party in this country today. \u00a0We are proud of you. We are proud of your leadership.
