Any member of the Niger State Executive Council, consisting of Commissioners and a select number of top government officials and aides to the Governor, who refuses to take the Covid-19 vaccine will be barred from attending council meetings, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has announced.
Bello announced this at the flag-off of the COVID-19 vaccination in the State, as he got a jab of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine., a statement from the Government House said.
The vaccine was administered on him by his physician, Dr Shehu Ahmed, at the Government House, Minna.\u00a0
The Governor was vaccinated alongside members of the state executive council during the official flag-off\u00a0 of the vaccination at the Government House, Minna, the Niger state capital.\u00a0
He said it is necessary to get vaccinated even though some concerns has been raised by some persons, adding the state government was doing everything possible to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0
“We all need it, once it is done, we will be able to convince Nigerlites that it is safe”, he said.\u00a0
He applauded the State Primary Healthcare for standing up to the occasion especially in the fight against the deadly virus.\u00a0
Earlier, Commissioner for Health and Hospital Services, Dr. Muhammad Makusidi, said that the state received 74, 110 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines, estimated for one per cent of the state’s population.\u00a0
Makusidi explained that the vaccine was safe and efficacious as it had gone through scientific and clinical trials.\u00a0
He said that those in the frontline would be given priority while calling on the public to get vaccinated and shun fake news about the vaccine and the virus.\u00a0
The commissioner said that 10, 613 have been tested for COVID-19 in the state with over 900 positive cases reported,while only one person is on admission at present.\u00a0
