{"id":31769,"date":"2021-03-06T18:12:03","date_gmt":"2021-03-06T17:12:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=31769"},"modified":"2021-03-06T18:12:03","modified_gmt":"2021-03-06T17:12:03","slug":"buhari-osinbajo-get-jab-of-astrazeneca-vaccine-urge-nigerians-to-do-same","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=31769","title":{"rendered":"Buhari, Osinbajo get jab of AstraZeneca Vaccine, urge Nigerians to do same"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Muhammadu Buhari together with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday in Abuja received doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.<br \/><br \/>President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo got the jab live on TV, a day after the COVID-19 national vaccine programme commenced with the vaccination of healthcare\u00a0and frontline\u00a0workers at the National Hospital, Abuja.<br \/><br \/>The President and his Vice received the shots of the vaccine at the New Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja in the presence of members of the\u00a0 Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, senior government officials and\u00a0 journalists.<br \/><br \/>The Personal Physician to the President, Dr Sanusi Raafindadi administered the vaccine on him while that of the Vice President\u2019 was done by his Personal Physician, Dr Nicholas Audifferen.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/IMG-20210306-WA0004-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-31771\"\/><figcaption>Osinbajo taking his jab<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking after the vaccine was administered to him, President Buhari described his decision to take the vaccine in public as \u2018\u2018a demonstration of leadership and faith in the safety and efficacy of the vaccines.\u2019\u2019<br \/><br \/>\u2018\u2018I have received my first jab and I wish to recommend it to all eligible Nigerians, to do same so that we can be protected from the virus,\u2019\u2019 he said.<br \/><br \/>He urged all state governments, traditional and religious leaders, to take the lead in the mobilisation effort within their environment and spheres of influence.<br \/><br \/>\u2018\u2018The vaccine offers hope for a safe country, free of Coronavirus.<br \/><br \/>\u2018\u2018I similarly urge all eligible Nigerians to present themselves and be vaccinated in accordance with the order of priority already mapped out, at the various authorized designated centres only,\u2019\u2019 he added.<br \/><br \/>President Buhari congratulated the PTF on COVID-19 on the successful multi-sectoral approach to the management of the pandemic.<br \/><br \/>He also acknowledged and commended the support of Governments, donors, development partners, the private sector, traditional and religious leaders as well as critical stakeholders who have supported Nigeria\u2019s response to the pandemic, assuring that all the resources will be equitably administered.<br \/><br \/>The President noted that since the beginning of the year 2020, humanity had remained under the burden of COVID-19 pandemic, an unseen but very potent enemy around the world.<br \/><br \/>\u2018\u2018Infection from the virus has resulted in over two million and five hundred thousand fatalities and destroyed several global and national systems.<br \/><br \/>\u2018\u2018The response in Nigeria and the ECOWAS sub-region has been robust, collaborative and united. It was driven by a collective knowledge of the fact that \u2018no country is safe until every country is safe.\u2019\u2019<br \/><br \/>\u2018\u2018The speedy development of the COVID-19 vaccines is quite significant and underscores the collective resolve of humanity to overcome the pandemic.<br \/><br \/>\u2018\u2018Similarly, the collaborative effort to ensure equal access has brought relief to poor and developing countries,\u2019\u2019 he said.<br \/><br \/>President Buhari spoke of the assurance by the PTF that the AstraZeneca vaccine which Nigeria has accessed would arrive in batches beginning with the four million doses already received.<br \/><br \/>The President said the roll out and administration plan would cater for over seventy percent of Nigeria\u2019s population\u00a0in\u00a02021 and 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Muhammadu Buhari together with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday in Abuja received doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
