{"id":28117,"date":"2020-08-16T08:39:48","date_gmt":"2020-08-16T07:39:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=28117"},"modified":"2020-08-16T08:39:48","modified_gmt":"2020-08-16T07:39:48","slug":"we-borrow-for-infrastructural-development-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=28117","title":{"rendered":"We Borrow For Infrastructural Development &#8211; Minister\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Release<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">We<b><i> Borrow For Infrastructural Development &#8211; Minister\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">By <strong>Segun Adeyemi<\/strong>, Special Assistant To The President (Media), Office of the Minister of Information and Culture<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\nThe Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said Nigeria is effectively utilising the funds it borrowed from China and elsewhere for infrastructural development to create jobs and provide the basis for economic development.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\"><\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Minister stated this at the construction site of the Ibadan Train Station on Saturday, after a joint inspection of the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Rail Project with his Transportation Counterpart, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThere is no better way to answer Nigerians as to what we have done with the money we have borrowed than this trip,&#8221; he told the over 40 journalists who accompanied them on the inspection.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&#8221;On this trip, you have seen first hand the stations being constructed, the rail lines and the people who are working on the projects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cRather than arguing with critics, we opted to allow you (journalists) &#8211; the ears and eyes of Nigerians &#8211; to come and see for yourselves what we are doing with the money we are borrowing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Alhaji Mohammed said there is nothing bad in borrowing, provided the funds are invested in infrastructure rather than services or consumption.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe didn\u2019t borrow money for services or overhead expenditure.
