{"id":25998,"date":"2020-04-20T23:50:11","date_gmt":"2020-04-20T22:50:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=25998"},"modified":"2020-04-20T23:50:11","modified_gmt":"2020-04-20T22:50:11","slug":"bad-news-for-air-travellers-airports-to-remain-shut-for-another-two-weeks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=25998","title":{"rendered":"Bad news for air travellers, airports to remain shut for another two weeks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Release<\/strong><br \/>\nBy <strong>James Odaudu<\/strong>, Director, Public Affairs, Federal Ministry of Aviation<br \/>\n<strong>NIGERIA&#8217;S AIRPORT\u2019S TO REMAIN SHUT FOR A FURTHER TWO WEEKS \u2013 SIRIKA\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nNigerian airports earlier shut down as part of efforts to control the spread of coronavirus in the country will no longer be reopened by the 23r d April 2020 as earlier projected.<br \/>\nMinister of Aviation,\u00a0 Senator Hadi Sirika who disclosed this in Abuja Monday said the new projected date of resumption of airport operations is consequent upon the two weeks extension of the lockdown by President Muhammadu Buhari.<br \/>\n\u201cAs a result of the extension on lockdown by Mr President,\u00a0 it is no longer possible for us to open our airspace and airports for normal operations by the 23rd April, 2020\u201d.<br \/>\nAccording to Sirika,\u00a0 the airports will remain closed for a further 2 weeks, which is however subject to review as appropriate.<br \/>\nHe has therefore appealed to air travellers and all stakeholders in the aviation industry to see the current situation as sacrifices necessary to safeguard the health and well-being of the people, with the hope that the pandemic will be shortlived.<br \/>\nThe federal government had announced the closure of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja on March 23rd 2020, for one month in the first instance as part of measures to combat the coronavirus scourge.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Release By James Odaudu, Director, Public Affairs, Federal Ministry of Aviation NIGERIA&#8217;S AIRPORT\u2019S TO REMAIN SHUT FOR A FURTHER TWO WEEKS \u2013 SIRIKA\u00a0 Nigerian airports earlier shut down as part of efforts to control the spread of coronavirus in the country will no longer be reopened by the 23r d April 2020 as earlier projected.
