{"id":25740,"date":"2020-04-04T23:39:26","date_gmt":"2020-04-04T22:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=25740"},"modified":"2020-04-04T23:39:26","modified_gmt":"2020-04-04T22:39:26","slug":"covid-19-oyo-records-one-new-case-set-to-fumigate-markets-this-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=25740","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19: Oyo records one new case, set to fumigate markets this week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Oyo State Covid-19 Task Force says the state has recorded another positive case of Covid-19, bringing to nine, the total of positive cases in the state.<br \/>\nA statement by the Acting Chairman of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force, Prof Temitope Alonge, on behalf the State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, which was made available in Ibadan on Saturday, confirmed that the\u00a0latest case is a\u00a0close contact of the\u00a0second\u00a0confirmed case who subsequently developed symptoms.<br \/>\nThe\u00a0statement indicated that the\u00a0patient has been moved to one of\u00a0the\u00a0isolation centres in the state,\u00a0while\u00a0activities at the Emergency Operations Centre,\u00a0(EOC) are being\u00a0ramped up and reviewed to meet the evolving nature of the Covid-19 pandemic.<br \/>\n\u201cWith the index case in the state already discharged, the\u00a0other seven cases remain stable,\u201d Prof. Alonge said.<br \/>\nAccording to the statement, the diagnostic centre located inside the University College Hospital has commenced\u00a0full and\u00a0timely testing of samples, while it\u00a0is\u00a0committed to a turnaround time of less than 24 hours to provide results for samples taken.<br \/>\n\u201cHis Excellency is\u00a0pleased at the progress that has been made at the Infectious Disease Hospital,\u00a0Olodo, Ibadan with the training of key personnel and the readiness of the\u00a0centre\u00a0to receive patients starting\u00a0from Monday the\u00a0April\u00a06,\u201d the statement read.<br \/>\nAccording to the statement, the state government has also received donations amounting to N125 million in cash and some other kind donations.<br \/>\nProf. Alonge, who issued the statement shortly after the regular review meeting of the Task Force, said that the state has also concluded arrangements to decontaminate (fumigate) markets spread across the state.<br \/>\nHe stated that the decontamination would be carried out using experts from the University of Ibadan, while the exact date of the exercise would be communicated through the heads of markets.<br \/>\nThe statement read: \u201cThe Task Force was also briefed about the School-on-Air programme designed to fill the gap for students in SS3, which is being supported by Telecommunications giant, Airtel with a donation of 500mb of data to each participating student.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Commissioner for Education, Barr Olasunkanmi Olaleye, who briefed the Task Force, said that the programme being run on the radio and television channels of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), was already reaching between 60 and 70 percent of the student population.<br \/>\n\u201cThe Task Force was further alerted to the decision of Governor Seyi Makinde to roll out palliatives to residents of the state within a short while and that the Ministry of Special Duties and Women Affairs and Social Inclusion are working out the modalities for the distribution of the palliatives in a way that would ensure the people who are really in need are directly reached.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Oyo State Covid-19 Task Force says the state has recorded another positive case of Covid-19, bringing to nine, the total of positive cases in the state.
