{"id":24478,"date":"2020-02-13T14:56:38","date_gmt":"2020-02-13T13:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=24478"},"modified":"2020-02-13T14:56:38","modified_gmt":"2020-02-13T13:56:38","slug":"judge-flares-up-as-buharis-daughter-says-she-sees-no-need-to-respond-to-allegations-of-rights-abuse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyday.ng\/?p=24478","title":{"rendered":"Judge flares up as Buhari&#8217;s daughter&#8217;s lawyer says she sees no need to respond to allegations of rights abuse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An infuriated Judge of the Federal High Court, Asaba, Delta State has berated the lawyer representing, daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari, Hanan, for his handling of the allegations of human rights abuse levelled against her by Mr. Anthony Okolie, detained by the State Security Service for 10 weeks over the use of a sim card previously used by her.<br \/>\nMr Okolie, through his lawyer, Tope Akinyode, had sued Hanan, the State Security Service (SSS) and MTN, over his \u2018illegal detention\u2019, Premium Times reports on its website.<br \/>\nSpeaking at the hearing of the suit filed by Mr Okolie at Federal High Court in Asaba on Wednesday, the president\u2019s daughter, through her lawyer M.E. Sheriff, told the court Hanan would not be responding to the allegations \u201cbecause there was no need.\u201d<br \/>\nInstead, Mr Buhari\u2019s daughter filed a written address in opposition to the originating motion on notice.<br \/>\n\u201cMy lord, we didn\u2019t file a counter-affidavit but a written address. We didn\u2019t file because we haven\u2019t found a reason to file a counter-affidavit,\u201d Mr Sheriff told the court.<br \/>\nThe judge, Nnamdi Dimgba, furiously responded saying: \u201cWhat do you mean you haven\u2019t seen a reason? Sheriff, how can you not see a reason? Somebody has accused you. Even if it is to say, \u2018I didn\u2019t do so\u2019, can\u2019t you respond? You\u2019re saying you did not see a reason. Sheriff, what kind of thing is this?\u201d<br \/>\nMr Okolie is seeking an order to \u201ccompel the respondents to jointly or severally to pay the applicant the sum of N500 million as general and aggravated damages for the gross and unlawful violation of the applicant\u2019s right to acquire moveable properties, freedom of movement and self dignity.\u201d<br \/>\nOn his part, the SSS lawyer, E.E. Daobri, said \u201che did not receive the necessary documents from the SSS headquarters in Abuja on time, hence, could not file a counter-affidavit.\u201d<br \/>\nHe asked for a two-week adjournment.<br \/>\nReacting to this, the applicant\u2019s lawyer, Mr Akinyode, asked the court to ensure that the matter was given expedited action.<br \/>\nHe also alleged that the SSS \u201care trailing him and his client since the matter started.\u201d<br \/>\nJustice Dimgba responded that, \u201cIf this is true, Daobri, tell your men to stop it.
